1. PRADHAN MANTRI AWAS YOJANA - URBAN (PMAY-U)
Ministry: A flagship Mission of Government of India.
Year of Launch: 25th June 2015
Implementation: Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA)
Objective:
• The Mission addresses urban housing shortage among the EWS/LIGand MIGcategories
including the slum dwellers by ensuring a pucca house to all eligible urban households
by the year 2022.
• It adopts a demand driven approach wherein the Housing shortage is decided based on
demand assessment by States/Union Territories.
• PMAY (U) has made a mandatory provision for the female head of the family to be the
owner or co-owner of the house under this Mission.

Coverage:
• It covers the entire urban area consisting of Statutory Towns, Notified Planning Areas,
Development Authorities, Special Area Development Authorities, Industrial
Development Authorities or any such authority u nder State legislation which is
entrusted with the functions of urban planning & regulations.
• All houses under PMAY(U) have basic amenities like toilet, water supply, electricity and
kitchen.

2. Components: The scheme has been divided into four verticals as given below:
1. In-situ Slum Redevelopment (ISSR)
2. Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS)
3. Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP)
4. Beneficiary-led Individual House Construction/ Enhancement (BLC-N/ BLC-E)
Eligibility Criteria
• Beneficiary max age 70 years.
• EWS (Economic Weaker Section) family income limit is 3 lakhs per annum and for LIG
(Lower Income Group) Family Income limit is 6 Lakhs per annum,[15] and Middle
Income Group -(MIG-I) income between 6 lakhs to U 2 lakhs per annum, (MIG-II)
income between U 2 lakhs to U Blakhs per annum.
• The beneficiary should not have an own dwelling unit on the name of any family
member in any part of India.
• The loan applicant should not have availed any central/state government subsidy or
benefit for buying a home under the PMAY scheme.
• Currently, the loan applicant should not own any property under their name and along
with any of the family members (including the dependents).
• The home renovation or improvement loans, self-construction loans will be allocated
only for EWS and LIG categories.
