5. Three change management techniques:
- Planning
- Relaxation
- Reframing
Resources:
Time Magazine. Epstein Plan your way to less stress, more
happiness
6. Activity: Your change response
1. Describe your most recent experience that
required you to adjust to the change
2. How would you rate your emotional response
to that change 0 – not good at all, 1 fairly
okay, 2 good or 3 very good
3. What 3 techniques did you use to help you
cope with the change? Rate the usefulness of
those techniques (0- did not work at all, or 1-
made me feel good initially then guilty after
or 2- helped me adjust effectively to the
change)
4. Let us reframe your experience. First identify
one positive about it then build on the
positives objectively and realistically.
• Reframing:
• E.g. 1. Why did we move to Kings’ city when
Queens’ city was much better?
• The move to Kings’ city will have new
experiences for me to explore. I can find things
that are similar to Queens’ city.
• E.g. 2. I am a failure for losing my job.
• Losing my job does not make me a failure. The
experience of losing my job was distressing but I
am still a valuable person.
