2. Introduction
Erik Erikson was a developmental psychologist born
in the early 1900s
Introduced the 8 Stages of Personality Development
These start in childbirth & end when a person dies
There are a serious of important developmental
events & questions attached to each stage
There is an outcome at each stage that a person
intended to achieve before moving to the next stage
3. Trust vs. Mistrust
Ages 0- 18 months.
Important event: Feeding & comfort.
Key question: Is my world safe?
Outcomes: Hope

Autonomy vs Shame
Ages 18 months to 3 years.
Important event: Toilet training & dressing self.
Key question: Can I do things myself or do I need others to help me?
Outcome: Will

Key question: Am I good or bad?
