Diary
Although I have created videos before, this task was
slightly different and a little bit more difficult. Other videos
that I have created, such as my advertisement for the
Smile Campaign only had to have a duration of a couple
minutes, however because this project was to create a
documentary, it meant that I needed a lot more footage.
Especially with the theme of this documentary being
"Culture in the Digital Age", meaning it was hard to
capture footage of things that are digital.
The idea for my documentary was to show the evolution of
how music streaming has progressed and how the digital
age has impacted it. This way I could show the history of it,
including aspects from before the digital age, making it
easier to find recording material.
Even though this made it easier to think of aspects to
record, it still wasn't simple because most devices that
were used to record/play music weren't easily accessible.
Although most were difficult to find, some were more
easily available such as online streaming, vinyl's, CDs, etc.

Since I was struggling on things to record that related to my idea, I recorded
interviews asking people what they used to listen to music and what types of
genres they were interested in. This helped me as it showed how most people
listen to music nowadays (during the digital age) was through online streaming
services. This made it easier to record as music streaming services are very easily
accessible.
When I found it difficult to record certain things that I wanted to talk about in my
voiceover, I found videos that I wanted to use on YouTube and used a service
called Y2Mate to download these pieces of footage to use in my documentary.
I specifically downloaded footage or used photographs of things that I couldn't
capture myself, such as recordings of famous musicians performing live and
devices such as jukeboxes, phonautographs, the world's first radio station, etc.
However, I could only include 10% or less of the original footage, so that
my documentary wouldn't be copyrighted. A problem I faced was that a certain
segment of my documentary could be copyrighted, therefore I cut down the
video to make it shorter.
