3. Action Conventions
Action film is a film genre in which one or more heroes are thrust into
a series of challenges that typically include physical
feats, extended combat scenes, violence, and frenetic chases. Action
films tend to feature a resourceful character struggling against
incredible odds, including life-threatening situations, a villain, or a
pursuit, which generally conclude in victory for the hero.
• Fights
• Goodies and baddies
• Protagonist outburst
• Violence - Weapons – knifes and guns
• Mission waiting to be completed
• Always a motive
• Killings; death of loved ones
• Up beat or sinister music
• Chase scenes with high energy and free running
4. Sound
The only dialogue in the film is at the end when Ryan shouts ‘ahhhhh
fuuuck’. This shows conventions of an action film protagonist as in an
action film the hero usually at points gets emotional in some way or
another. We felt this was important as it shows that they are still
human and that have emotions.
In our film we use a sound effect of heavy breathing during the GoPro
clip. This creates a sense of reality about the chase scene. Also it, like
using the GoPro, draws the audience more into the action. We also use
the actual sounds from the footage such as footsteps and vocal noise
but enhance them to they become more dramatic.
Another convention of an action film we used was an exciting and action
filled soundtrack. The sound track is very important to a film because
it sets the entire mood and atmosphere. The music we used is called
True gangsters; a high energy dubstep track. This is a good choice in
music as not only does it give energy and an erratic atmosphere but
with a British grungy feel. Also when asked people said they imagined
a chase scene when they heard this music and were told to think of a
scene in a film.
5. GoPro…
For parts of our filming we used a gopro
camera attached to Toms chest. This
develops the convention of action shots in
action films as it creates a very strong sense
of action, energy and how frantic and intense
the chase scene is.
Another reason why the Gopro is good is
because it gives the perspective of the
perusing character but also draws the
audience into the action as if they were
indeed the character them selves chasing
someone through a multi story car park!
The GoPro was also used to impersonate a car
park security camera. The GoPro was good at
doing this because is can be magnetically
attached to things and be put in small places.
Another reason we used the GoPro was so
that during the clip when its showing the
perspective of Ryan Holt it causes the
audience to empathise with his character.
Having the GoPro on Ryan is also good
because it gives a sense of danger for the
person the Ryan is chasing.

The font we used in our film is called During our introduction

the script, production, editing and
