This is the second draft of my Sidney Sower script, after I received peer and tutor feedback on my first draft.

"SHOW TIME FOR SIDNEY"______________________
SMASH CUT:
INT. SIDNEY'S BEDROOM - DAY - LATE 80'S
Sidney Sower sits up in his bed. Sidney is 16 years old. He
is skinny and spotty.
There is a poster visible behind him reading: "School Talent
Show". He is still dressed in school clothes from the
previous day and his hair is dishevelled.
There is a post-it stuck to his face reading: "MATHS 4 TMRW".
He takes it off, reads it, then scrumples it up and sighs.
PAN TO Sidney's best mate Ricky Nicks - a baggy skater style
kid wearing a bucket hat - pulling his leg through the
window, where there are marks from Ricky having done this
before.
SIDNEY
Ricky!?
RICKY
(loudly and excitedly)
Sidneyyyy!
SIDNEY
(still waking up)
What the hell are you doing?
RICKY
Mate schools just finished, I thought
I'd come see if you were alive. I'm
not doing the show alone.
SIDNEY
What! I set three alarms!
Sidney looks at his alarm clock; the sleep button is smashed
to bits.
SIDNEY
Shit okay, well we're doing this show
no matter what. Did you bring the
tracks?
RICKY
(hesitant)
Uhhh, yeah I think so.

Ricky starts taking handfuls CDs out of his pockets and
chucking them on the bed.
SIDNEY
Careful! Those are all we've got until
my mums PC get's fixed.
INT. ARCADE GAME - DAY (ANIMATED)
A happy PC and cola cup appear with a plus symbol between
them. The cola spills on the PC which turns sad as it's
health bar depletes.
INT./EXT. SIDNEY'S BEDROOM/OUTSIDE SIDNEY'S HOUSE - DAY
Sidney is still on the bed looking at the CDs.
RICKY
Oh no
SIDNEY
Wait, none of these are the one I need
for the show anyway!
Ricky pats his pockets and then looks to the window.
RICKY
Oh shit!
Ricky and Sidney lean out of the window and we see a few
smashed CD cases and CDs.
RICKY
Ooooh f...
EXT. OUTSIDE SIDNEY'S HOUSE - DAY
Sidney looks at a shard of the CD case as Ricky picks up a CD
case that is in okay condition.
RICKY (CONT.)
Fire-truck! Can you hear it?
SIDNEY
(annoyed)
Mate what are we gonna do!
Sidney holds up the smashed empty case with a wet handwritten
cover reading: "Talent Show Tracks".

RICKY
Awww and my 'Wham!' CD!
Sidney frowns at Ricky, tuts and sighs.
INT. SIDNEY'S BEDROOM - DAY
Sidney chucks CD shards into a bin looking defeated and sits
on his bed.
SIDNEY
We can't even do the show anymore.
RICKY
Sorry mate but bun that...
Sidney raises an eyebrow.
RICKY (CONT.)
Let's just do it acapella.
SIDNEY
(whining)
I don't know dude, I spent ages on
that tape.
The camera starts to PULL BACK slowly.
RICKY
Hehe tapes, that's old-school.
SIDNEY
What tapes?
(pause)
Acapella.
Sidney looks off camera. PULL BACK to reveal a tape recorder
with a microphone on a shelf.
RICKY
(grinning)
Ahh.
POV from the tape in the recorder as Sidney opens it. Sidney
and Ricky look down.
RICKY
(dropping his grin)
Ah.
There is no tape inside.

SIDNEY
There's gotta be a tape somewhere!
Sidney searches through a drawer full of CDs looking for a
tape. He finds a case but it's empty so he chucks it behind
him. Finally he pulls a tape case out of a deep corner in the
drawer. It has hearts drawn on it and reads: "Mixtape 4
Buffy". Ricky stifles a chuckle.
SIDNEY
Yeah yeah alright.
RICKY
Wait I thought you gave that to her
already, you started it in year 8?
SIDNEY
(doubting what he's saying)
Yeah but, like, the gaps between the
tracks
(pause)
You know?
(pause)
They were too long.
ricky gives a pitying look, as if to say "yeah yeah".
SIDNEY
(in defeat)
Well anyway I don't have any others
and I'm not overwriting this one, so
the shows off.
He sits down on his bed again. Ricky joins him sitting close.
RICKY
Sid man, think about it, she's gonna
be there and you're gonna be there.
And you're gonna be looking very cool.
(pause)
And plus I'm wicked on the spoons and
we could make the sickest tunes.
SIDNEY
Hmmmmm.
Ricky pulls a couple of spoons into frame and grins. Sidney
breathes deep through his nose and gives a small nod.

INT. KITCHEN - DAY
MONTAGE - Sidney and Ricky record themselves beatboxing and
playing various household objects into the tape recorder. At
first Sidney doesn't join in but just sets up the recorder
but ricky hands him a pair of chopsticks and he eventually
begins to enjoy himself.
INT. KITCHEN - NIGHT
Sidney and Ricky sit at the table next to a hi-fi. Sidney
holds up the completed tape, still reading: "Mixtape 4
Buffy". He looks at it and sighs.
SIDNEY
You'd better be right dude, I hope she
likes it.
RICKY
(looking a bit guilty)
Yep. Yeah. I'm sure she will dude.
SIDNEY
(pause)
What?
(pause)
What is it bro?
RICKY
(guiltily)
Well I didn't wanna be a downer
earlier,
(beat)
but Buffy's not actually gonna be
there.
SIDNEY
(devastated)
What! No.
Sidney sighs a long and disappointed sigh, staring at the
tape. He eventually wipes off the writing and tightens his
grip before Ricky gently takes the tape and puts it into a
tape player. He gives Sidney a little smile and a nod before
pressing play.
MUSIC CUE: A funky upbeat hip-hop instrumental made with
household objects
Sidney looks up and slowly a smile starts to appear on his
face.

He starts nodding his head in time. Him and Ricky meet eyes
as they go for a hearty handshake.
END MUSIC CUE
SMASH CUT to Sidney's mum coming in holding handfuls of
shopping bags and a CD.
SIDNEY'S MUM
(panting slightly)
Heya boys! Sorry I'm a bit late! I
hope you're all ready for the show.
I'm so proud! I'll just change and
then we can go, alright?
Sidney starts taking the tape out of the player and placing
into its case.
SIDNEY'S MUM
Oh by the way, I found this disc
outside, it hasn't got a case; is it
yours?
Sidney's mum holds up a CD that reads: "Talent Show Tracks"
SIDNEY
(smiling)
