Media evaluation question 5
1. 5
How did you attract/ address your audience?
We made sure that we stuck to the conventions our audience would be expecting. Such as Levi-Strauss’ theory of
binary opposites such as good vs evil, hero vs villain. In the case of our film assassin vs terrorist). The reasoning
behind the assassination in the story is due to the threat the antagonist De Gaulle poses to national security which
is a common convention in Action films. The action sequences we had in our media product add tension, suspense
and excitement, which would appeal and grab a male viewer’s attention and young males are our target audience.
The aesthetics of the gun will add appeal because of its realistic look. The British urban feel of the film will also
appeal to the British audience and the outfitting of our characters are “cool” looks which is a key factor when
appealing to the male demographic. The Anglo-Franco binary opposite often appeals to British audiences due to a
international rivalry particularly with young people which we have exploited in our piece with the English
protagonist and the French antagonist.
We also appealed to them through our production and post-production (footage and editing). We used many close
shots and extreme shots which immerse the audience into the film as they feel as they are witnessing the action
first hand. This engages the audience when watching our film and gives them a more personal experience when
admiring the story. This was done after our survey found that action and suspense were the most popular elements
of action films that the public enjoyed so we made sure that our sequence was story driven and tense for the
audience to view. We had to change a few things to attract out audience more, such as adding a briefing scene to
introduce the protagonists and familiarise the audience with the setting and time.
Our audience feedback shows that we did in fact attract them as nearly all of them said they would like to see the
rest of the film because of the engaging story., the more personal cinematography, the musical score and the
cliffhanger ending. However they felt the titles were difficult to read and the dialogue needed to be improved.
