Specialized in Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) by investigating the management of operations of
all types of businesses to determine if government standards of environmental control were being met. Also
supervised site remediation, asbestos abatement, and hazmat sampling. Advised clients of relevant regulations,
procedures and practices and made recommendations.
Phase I ESA’s
• Conducted historical research, site reconnaissance and site inspections for
commercial/industrial/residential buildings to identify potential environmental risks and liabilities:
o As part of due diligence prior to making property acquisitions.
o As a follow up to one of the Phase I ESA’s conducted remedial efforts which led to the removal of
2 underground storage tanks and the prevention of approximately 25,000 litres of fuel being
released into the environment.
o Supervised the excavations and removal of hydrocarbon contaminated soils, and soil the sampling
of former underground storage tanks at sites in Watson, SK., and in Yorkton, SK as a follow up to
another Phase I ESA.
o Conducted historical searches and site reconnaissance of vacant properties as part of a major
downtown City of Saskatoon redevelopment.
o Conducted a historical search and site reconnaissance for the purposes of financing a building
expansion for the Saskatoon Health District.
Site Remediation/Remedial Excavations
• Supervised the excavation and removal/disposal of hydrocarbon-impacted soil prior to site
development/upgrades in a variety of Saskatchewan communities:
o As part of a Nitrate Remediation Program supervised the excavation and stockpiling of 1,000 m3
of nitrate impacted soils in Lake Lenore, SK, and the placement and blending of molasses into the
stockpiled soils.

o As part of the Orphan Fuel Storage And Sales Facility Clean Up Program supervised the
excavation of approximately 1,100 m3 of impacted soils in the RM of Bjorkdale and the excavation
of approximately 1,700 m3 of impacted soils in the RM of Torch River.
o In response to a 14,000 litre fuel spill in Stoney Rapids, SK, supervised the excavation, removal
and soil sampling of hydrocarbon contaminated soils. The project also involved the co-ordination
of efforts between local contractors, and provincial and federal environmental departments in
developing an action plan and final remediation site.
o In response to a 2,000 litre diesel fuel spill adjacent to residential properties in Flin Flon, MB.
supervised the excavation, removal of hydrocarbon contaminated soils, and soil and air sampling.
o Responsible for the long-term groundwater monitoring of an operating and decommissioned
service station site for a major oil company.
Asbestos Abatement
• Provided hazardous material management prior to the demolition of various industrial buildings.
Supervised the removal of asbestos, and monitored work areas during abatement projects. Conducted air
monitoring and fibre count analysis during all asbestos removal. Site examples are:
o The Gathercole Building, Saskatoon, SK.
o IPCO, Saskatoon, SK.
o Provided sampling and fibre counting analysis of building materials during renovations at a
downtown location for a Crown Corporation as part of a follow-up to the Asbestos Sampling
Program, Saskatoon, SK.
o Major retail chain: Provided sampling and fibre counting analysis of building materials during
renovations.
o Provided sampling and inspection services during renovations of a main office and warehouse in
Saskatoon.
Hazmat Sampling
• Confirmed the presence of asbestos containing materials as part of provincial project team to identify and
address:
o 150 sites for a Crown Corporation through the Asbestos Identification Program, Saskatchewan:
o Hazmat Sampling of Abandoned Buildings in Northern Saskatchewan: Hazardous materials
sampling at two abandoned schools in LaPlonge, and Deschambault Lake, Saskatchewan.
o Emergency Response Hazardous Materials Sampling, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan: Conducted
emergency response assessments, sampling, and analysis of air samples after an asbestos
release during renovations for a major retail chain.
o Hazmat Sampling of Inhabited Buildings for Major Retail Chain: Conducted hazardous materials
sampling at a number of stores with Saskatchewan for a major retail chain.
SASKATCHEWAN MINISTRY OF THE ENVIRONMENT (MOE), REGINA 1989-1994
The Environmental Protection Branch of the MOE provides information to the general public on issues of
environmental protection.

dangerous goods to clients and the general public. Also reviewed and interpreted technical
