Tenerife Hiking Tips
1. Pico del Teide is one of the most popular treks in Tenerife (Mount Teide Peak). Permits are required

2. Before you arrive in Tenerife, purchase a Tenerife hiking handbook such as the Tenerife Rother
Walking Guide. Once on the island, it's quite difficult to locate useful trail guides.
3. Bring hiking food and enough water for each trek. While eateries are distributed across the Tenerife
highlands, they are not always open.
4. Hike in Grade B/C hiking boots such as the Hanwag Tatra II GTX / Meindl Schuhe Island Lady for ladies
(like Kati and I do) or the Hanwag Tatra II GTX for men. To traverse steep and slippery terrain, you'll
need robust footwear (e.g. screen and wet leaves)

6. Base yourself at La Laguna if you want to hike in the Anaga Mountains, Buenavista del Norte or Los
Gigantes if you want to explore Teno Rural Park, and Vilaflor if you want to hike in Teide National Park.

Masca to Santiago del Teide
 Santiago del Teide is the trailhead.

 Difficulty: Simple
The point-to-point climb from Santiago del Teide to Masca hamlet exemplifies the Teno Mountains'
grandeur. It's a walking path that we'd gladly repeat.
You'll begin with a 388-meter ascent to the Degollada de la Mesa col. Take a little diversion to Pico
Verde for outstanding vistas of the serpentine TF-436 winding through the mountains to Masca.
Garcia de Roques
 The trail begins at the Mirador de la Ruleta.
 Circuit length: 3.4 kilometers
 Time Required: 1 hour and fifteen minutes
 Difficulty: Simple
Pico del Teide receives all of the attention. After all, it is Spain's tallest peak. However, behind the
intimidating volcano, several hiking paths explore the Las Canadas caldera. Roques de Garcia is a quick
and easy trek that everyone should take.
With a clear perspective of Mount Teide, you'll complete a round of the park's most remarkable rock
formation in just over an hour. The hike begins at Mirador de la Ruleta, immediately across the street
from Parador Nacional.
Circuit Trail from Parador Nacional to Montaa Guajara
 Circuit length: 10.1 kilometers
 Time Requirement: 4:30 hrs
 Moderate – Difficult
While there are other routes to Montana Guajara, we recommend beginning at the Parador Nacional.
From here, the elevation to the Guajara plateau is gradual and steady. Circulate in a clockwise direction
around the circuit route.

3. At the summit, you'll enjoy an incredible birds-eye view of the caldera and Mount Teide. The entire
circuit trek takes around 4:30 hours.
Benijo to Faro de Anaga Lighthouse Circuit
Benijo is the trailhead.
 Circuit length: 11.6 kilometers
 Time Required: 6 – 6:30 p.m.
 Difficulty
The Anaga massif is the island's oldest section and, in our opinion, its most magnificent mountain. The
Anaga mountains have the appearance of a living entity, sliding ceaselessly into the sea.
We propose trekking this 6-hour circle path to gain a good overview of this Tenerife mountain range.
Taganana to Tamadite Playa

 Circuit length: 3.7 kilometers

The delightful Tenerife stroll from the secluded settlement of Taganana to the beach Playa de Tamadite
provides uninterrupted spectacular views of the Anaga coast in both directions.
This is a straightforward stroll with little slope change. The only challenging component is determining
the trailhead's location.
You'll begin your journey by passing through the modest wine-producing community of El Chorro. You'll
descend to Barranco de After and cross a brook before reaching Tamadite beach. Playa de Tamadite is
an ideal location for lunch and a rest before beginning the return trek to Taganana.
