Depot in PkMS environment and customisation in accordance with legacy
environment.
 NDM to XCOM Conversion: Due to some licensing constraints, the client
needed to renew contract in case it wished to continue with NDM (a file
transfer product) which had huge cost involvement. We developed an
automation in which all the components requiring change were identified
and converted to use XCOM, a much cheaper alternative.
 Implementation of Multi-Row-Fetch Concept: This is a latest feature in
DB2 available only from version 9.0 onwards. We identified the high CPU
consuming programs that can be tuned using this concept and achieved
1000+ minutes mainframes CPU saving on a monthly basis at peak periods.
 DB2 Upgrade from V7 to V8: Since DB2 V7 is already out of support
from IBM, there are chances of any issues related to the functioning of DB2
software, if they arise at any time, remaining unresolved. Therefore system
was upgraded to DB2 V8 to allow running all the DB2 applications
uninterrupted. After this, upgrade of DB2 V8 to New Function Mode in
production subsystems is required to use all features of DB2 V8.
Following was the test approach:-
 Testing DB2 Utilities: - e.g. REORG, LOAD etc.
 Testing DB2 File Aid: – Various options in DB2 File Aid where application
teams have got access will be tested. E.g. SPUFI
 Testing Critical Application Batch Jobs: – The database activity intensive
jobs/schedules will be tested to ensure that the basic functionalities like
SELECT, INSERT, DELETE/UPDATE are working
 Testing Critical Online Screens
 IMS Upgrade from V7 to V11:- IMS Version7 was out of support and
hence business decided to upgrade it to Version11 (the latest version).
Through testing was performed to make sure upgrade will not have impact
on the business applications.
Following was the test approach:-
 Testing IMS File Aid: – Various options in IMS File Aid where application
teams have got access will be tested.
 Testing Critical Application Batch Jobs: – The database activity intensive
jobs/schedules will be tested to ensure that the basic functionalities like
GN, GNP, GHNP, and GU are working fine.
 Testing Critical Online Screens
 Organizational hierarchy changes: To support Sainsbury exponential
growth, it has planned to open large number of stores across the UK. To

the structure of the store in Organizational hierarchy. As part of the
hierarchy change new area/region were introduced.
As part of this change, below changes were introduced:
Area was changed from 1 digit to 2 digits
New pharmacy area was introduced.
 IMS consolidation project (2011): One of the legacy applications was
running on 2 mainframe server and as it was using IMS database,
Sainsbury has to pay double maintenance charges for IMS database.
Project was introduced to merge both application from both server and
keep it on one server only.

Movement of data from one server to another
Merging of the data

which EPOS is being replatformed into Retalix 10, a highly successful
solution that ensures high level of customer satisfaction plus rapid business
growth.
 Replatforming of the Integration Layer: Non-standard, in-house and
less reliable integration mechanisms used to integrate the Warehouse
Management Systems within Sainsbury’s are being replaced by a stable and
unique integration mechanism. Once implemented, this will considerably
reduce the software maintenance cost as well as the risk of data loss.
 DB2 Upgrade from V8 to V9:- Since DB2 V8 is already out of support
from IBM, there are chances of any issues related to the functioning of DB2
software, if they arise at any time, remaining unresolved. Therefore system
will be upgraded to DB2 V9 to allow running all the DB2 applications
uninterrupted.

applications are currently running on Legacy mainframe environment. LMS
Kronos package was planned to introduce so that it can replace all the

This has resulted in following business benefits
o 12% reduction in Mainframe MIP usage resulting in Estimated savings of 5 Million
GBP per year.

Simplification of Customer complaints data to supplier: Complaints data was used to
be sent in complex format for which suppliers have to invest lots of time to analyze the data
