Hello Golden Eagle Basketball Families & Supporters,
There is nothing like the amazing energy associated with high school
athletics! Anticipation and excitement come with every season and
an incredible level of commitment centers around involvement in the
numerous clubs, activities and sports teams at Mountain Vista. Mountain
Vista Golden Eagle Basketball has provided our kids and community
with some incredible experiences the past several years! The bar has
certainly been set high for the 2016-17 season and our kids have made
a dedicated effort to raise it once again. We are very fortunate to have
a school community who recognize the importance of our programs
and give so much of themselves to create meaningful & memorable
experiences for our kids.
Being associated in any way with Golden Eagle athletics adds to the
overall high school experience for our students and families. The positive
and comprehensive programming we offer would not be complete
without the opportunity for student athletes to compete. We are proud
not only of the incredible success that all MVHS sports teams have had
in recent years, but also in how we go about our business in regard to
the competitiveness, commitment and character of our teams, athletes
and fans.
Hustle, effort, toughness and the atmosphere in the “Eagle Nest” have
become synonymous with Vista Boys and Girls Basketball. There is no
better way to bring a school and community together than packing the
stands and being a part of successful programs! The teams, cheers
& poms, band, parents, student body, rivalries and tradition create an
experience as important as the outcome of the game. Thanks for being a
part of something so special and for supporting all of our Mountain Vista
Basketball teams. Great luck Golden Eagles!

GOLDEN EAGLE FANS AND VISITORS,
On behalf of the Mountain Vista Athletic
Department, I want to welcome all students
to participate in our interscholastic sports
programs. As the Winter Sports 2016-2017
seasons begin, the athletic department looks
forward to another successful year for all of
our programs. Mountain Vista High School
is a proud member of CHSAA (Colorado
High School Athletic Association) and the
Continental League. Mountain Vista High
School will adhere to all rules and regulations
of these governing bodies.
Sports have played a key role in my life.
Because of sports, I have developed skills
in time management, problem solving,
delegation, motivation, team building and
leadership development opportunities.
Athletics is leadership development
training for life. Student-athletes learn
that participation in athletics in not only
a privilege, but it is also an honor that
requires the responsibility for maintaining
one’s academic standing in the classroom
and a high standard of conduct outside
of school hours. A strong program of
extracurricular activities provides a
balance in educational programming for its
student-athletes. My athletic motto is “IN
CONSANT PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE”
To our community, alumni, parents, and
friends, you are a tremendous asset to our
athletic programs, we are extremely grateful
for support and loyalty. The athletic programs
success at Mountain Vista High School is
based on commitment by student-athletes,
parents, coaches, and the school community.
This commitment is exemplified through our
student-athlete’s off-season workouts and
competitive participation, ongoing volunteer
efforts of parents and relentless desire of
coaches to prepare student-athletes for
challenges they will face during high school
and beyond.
I am so excited for Mountain Vista Golden
Eagle Basketball. As a previous basketball
coach that coached at the high school and
college level there is nothing better than
being in a packed house gym. I am told that
we have the absolutely best student section
in the state. I look forward to being part of
this experience of Mountain Vista Golden
Eagle Basketball. Thank you for supporting
Mountain Vista sports and activities.
IT’S ALWAYS A GREAT DAY TO BE A
GOLDEN EAGLE!

A Message
From Your
Athletic
Director
Expectations are very high for the upcoming 2016-
2017 season. Five players return that started part
or all of last seasons games. With this many
returning starters, the Golden Eagles are poised to
have a very successful season. To be successful,
our players and coaches must strive to meet our
team goals. We must commit to being successful.
Success is based on work ethic, our commitment
to improving daily, our sacrifices to make the
team better, our unselfishness, and our undying
enthusiasm to be the best team possible.
This year, for the first time ever, RPI will decide
our seeding in the state tournament. Every game
is important. We are playing the most difficult
schedule in the history of the school. Non-
conference opponents include George Washington,
Grandview, Fossil Ridge, Boulder, Boulder Fairview,
Arapahoe, and Doherty. Mountain Vista will also
play the incredibly difficult Continental League
schedule. The Golden Eagles will need to be ready
to play well every night.
This year’s squad will include All Conference first
team returnees, Isaac Essien and Jake Belknapp.
Connor Stailb, Miles Hughes and Bennett Baker
are returning starters from last year’s squad.
Isaac, Jake and Connor averaged double figures
in points last year. Isaac also led the team in
steals, deflections, and assists. Jake led the team
in scoring and rebounding. Connor led the team
in three-point percentage and three point makes.
Juniors Garrett Sweeney, Ben Willis, and R.J.
Wohleber and sophomores Simon May and Eric
Kimmell are also expected to compete for varsity
playing time.
The expectations from the coaches is that this
team competes at the highest level. We feel this
can be one of our best teams ever. This team has
the potential to compete for a state title. We will
find out if we have the resolve to get there.
We are looking forward to the season with great
anticipation and cannot wait for our opening game.

“We strive to make our school,
community and family proud of the
way that we conduct ourselves on
and away from the court.”
Welcome to the 2016-17 basketball season. We
are so excited to get rolling for another exciting
season of Mountain Vista Girls Basketball. This
season will be no different than the previous four
seasons that I have been a part of the Vista family,
we have high expectations for our players on the
court and in the classroom. We strive to make our
school, community and family proud of the way
that we conduct ourselves on and away from the
court.
The old saying, “It takes a village to run a pro-
gram.” Is true. We couldn’t run a successful
program without the support of everyone involved.
Mr.Weaver and Mr.Terrry have provided a positive,
winning culture here at Mountain Vista and the
resources to run a successful program. Thank you
for building that winning culture and demanding
a high level of excellence on the court and in the
classroom. Thank you to the parents of the play-
ers for the countless rides, donations, volunteer
hours and support, without all of you we couldn’t
be successful. The coaches and their families for
the countless hours away and their dedication to
try to make this one of the best programs in the
state.A simple “thank you” would never be enough
gratitude that I owe each and every one of you for
your time and more importantly your friendship. To
the players, you have all worked so hard and have
spent countless hours dedicated to making this
program what it is. From early morning workouts,
to long hot summer basketball games, to late night
practices your dedication to the Mountain Vista
Basketball family has made this one of the top
programs in the state thank you for your efforts
in the classroom, community and on the court!
Last and certainly not least, my amazing wife and
two daughters, without their sacrifices during the
season I would be unable to follow my dream and
passion of coaching basketball. Thank you for put-
ting up with the long hours away and supporting
me throughout the season.
This season will certainly be an exciting time for
all involved. We will play hard, play fast and will
do everything in our power to make the Mountain
Vista community proud. So whatever you do, stand
up, cheer as loud as you can and enjoy Mountain
Vista Girls’ Basketball!

sees his role in the Vista program, Coach Gamble said,“What I am most excited about is the long
view of our program and teaching these young women our core values that will continue to shape
the legacy of Vista basketball and these players outside of the game for years to come.” Outside
of basketball Coach Gamble is in sales and marketing in the real estate industry and lives in the Vista school system.
He and his wife Bonnie have four children (Corban, Mackenzie, Henry and William) who either attend or will attend

  • 3. Hello Golden Eagle Basketball Families & Supporters, There is nothing like the amazing energy associated with high school athletics! Anticipation and excitement come with every season and an incredible level of commitment centers around involvement in the numerous clubs, activities and sports teams at Mountain Vista. Mountain Vista Golden Eagle Basketball has provided our kids and community with some incredible experiences the past several years! The bar has certainly been set high for the 2016-17 season and our kids have made a dedicated effort to raise it once again. We are very fortunate to have a school community who recognize the importance of our programs and give so much of themselves to create meaningful & memorable experiences for our kids. Being associated in any way with Golden Eagle athletics adds to the overall high school experience for our students and families. The positive and comprehensive programming we offer would not be complete without the opportunity for student athletes to compete. We are proud not only of the incredible success that all MVHS sports teams have had in recent years, but also in how we go about our business in regard to the competitiveness, commitment and character of our teams, athletes and fans. Hustle, effort, toughness and the atmosphere in the “Eagle Nest” have become synonymous with Vista Boys and Girls Basketball. There is no better way to bring a school and community together than packing the stands and being a part of successful programs! The teams, cheers & poms, band, parents, student body, rivalries and tradition create an experience as important as the outcome of the game. Thanks for being a part of something so special and for supporting all of our Mountain Vista Basketball teams. • 4. GOLDEN EAGLE FANS AND VISITORS, On behalf of the Mountain Vista Athletic Department, I want to welcome all students to participate in our interscholastic sports programs. As the Winter Sports 2016-2017 seasons begin, the athletic department looks forward to another successful year for all of our programs. Mountain Vista High School is a proud member of CHSAA (Colorado High School Athletic Association) and the Continental League. Mountain Vista High School will adhere to all rules and regulations of these governing bodies. Sports have played a key role in my life. Because of sports, I have developed skills in time management, problem solving, delegation, motivation, team building and leadership development opportunities. Athletics is leadership development training for life. Student-athletes learn that participation in athletics in not only a privilege, but it is also an honor that requires the responsibility for maintaining one’s academic standing in the classroom and a high standard of conduct outside of school hours. A strong program of extracurricular activities provides a balance in educational programming for its student-athletes. My athletic motto is “IN CONSANT PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE” To our community, alumni, parents, and friends, you are a tremendous asset to our athletic programs, we are extremely grateful for support and loyalty. The athletic programs success at Mountain Vista High School is based on commitment by student-athletes, parents, coaches, and the school community. This commitment is exemplified through our student-athlete’s off-season workouts and competitive participation, ongoing volunteer efforts of parents and relentless desire of coaches to prepare student-athletes for challenges they will face during high school and beyond. I am so excited for Mountain Vista Golden Eagle Basketball. As a previous basketball coach that coached at the high school and college level there is nothing better than being in a packed house gym. I am told that we have the absolutely best student section in the state. I look forward to being part of this experience of Mountain Vista Golden Eagle Basketball. Thank you for supporting Mountain Vista sports and activities. IT’S ALWAYS A GREAT DAY TO BE A GOLDEN EAGLE! • 6. Expectations are very high for the upcoming 2016- 2017 season. Five players return that started part or all of last seasons games. With this many returning starters, the Golden Eagles are poised to have a very successful season. To be successful, our players and coaches must strive to meet our team goals. We must commit to being successful. Success is based on work ethic, our commitment to improving daily, our sacrifices to make the team better, our unselfishness, and our undying enthusiasm to be the best team possible. This year, for the first time ever, RPI will decide our seeding in the state tournament. Every game is important. We are playing the most difficult schedule in the history of the school. Non- conference opponents include George Washington, Grandview, Fossil Ridge, Boulder, Boulder Fairview, Arapahoe, and Doherty. Mountain Vista will also play the incredibly difficult Continental League schedule. The Golden Eagles will need to be ready to play well every night. This year’s squad will include All Conference first team returnees, Isaac Essien and Jake Belknapp. Connor Stailb, Miles Hughes and Bennett Baker are returning starters from last year’s squad. Isaac, Jake and Connor averaged double figures in points last year. Isaac also led the team in steals, deflections, and assists. Jake led the team in scoring and rebounding. Connor led the team in three-point percentage and three point makes. Juniors Garrett Sweeney, Ben Willis, and R.J. Wohleber and sophomores Simon May and Eric Kimmell are also expected to compete for varsity playing time. The expectations from the coaches is that this team competes at the highest level. We feel this can be one of our best teams ever. This team has the potential to compete for a state title. We will find out if we have the resolve to get there. We are looking forward to the season with great anticipation and cannot wait for our opening game. We are so excited to get rolling for another exciting season of Mountain Vista Girls Basketball. This season will be no different than the previous four seasons that I have been a part of the Vista family, we have high expectations for our players on the court and in the classroom. We strive to make our school, community and family proud of the way that we conduct ourselves on and away from the court. The old saying, “It takes a village to run a pro- gram.” Is true. We couldn’t run a successful program without the support of everyone involved. Mr.Weaver and Mr.Terrry have provided a positive, winning culture here at Mountain Vista and the resources to run a successful program. Thank you for building that winning culture and demanding a high level of excellence on the court and in the classroom. Thank you to the parents of the play- ers for the countless rides, donations, volunteer hours and support, without all of you we couldn’t be successful. The coaches and their families for the countless hours away and their dedication to try to make this one of the best programs in the state.A simple “thank you” would never be enough gratitude that I owe each and every one of you for your time and more importantly your friendship. To the players, you have all worked so hard and have spent countless hours dedicated to making this program what it is. From early morning workouts, to long hot summer basketball games, to late night practices your dedication to the Mountain Vista Basketball family has made this one of the top programs in the state thank you for your efforts in the classroom, community and on the court! Last and certainly not least, my amazing wife and two daughters, without their sacrifices during the season I would be unable to follow my dream and passion of coaching basketball. Thank you for put- ting up with the long hours away and supporting me throughout the season. This season will certainly be an exciting time for all involved. We will play hard, play fast and will do everything in our power to make the Mountain Vista community proud. So whatever you do, stand up, cheer as loud as you can and enjoy Mountain Vista Girls’ Basketball! HEAD COACH BIO Ryan Gamble // ASSISTANT VARSITY Coach Gamble joined the Girls Vista Basketball program for the 2016-2017 season. He helps with practice planning and player development and often works specifically with guards and wing players when the team breaks into positional training. When asked how he sees his role in the Vista program, Coach Gamble said,“What I am most excited about is the long view of our program and teaching these young women our core values that will continue to shape the legacy of Vista basketball and these players outside of the game for years to come.” Outside of basketball Coach Gamble is in sales and marketing in the real estate industry and lives in the Vista school system. He and his wife Bonnie have four children (Corban, Mackenzie, Henry and William) who either attend or will attend Mountain Vista. During that time he has worked with four different head coaches, multiple levels of player development, and an assortment of coaching styles. During a eight-year run as Freshman coach, Mac’s teams won nearly 80% of their games and a Continental League Championship in 2009. His primary focus has always been supporting the head coach, developing player skills while providing a fun and productive setting for his players. Coach Mac grew up in New York City just a few subway stops away from Yankee Stadium before spending his high school years in the suburbs of NYC. It was there on the playgrounds of New York where his lifelong passion for basketball was born. His path to teaching took a circuitous route with jobs ranging from social worker, club disc jockey, advertising exec, and a four-year stint with the NBA’s Denver Nuggets where his courtside, game operations seat provided him with a window into the talents and antics of some of the elite players and coaches in the league. Mac has lived in Colorado for 36 years and in the Highlands Ranch community for 21. His greatest joys come from his family life with his wife and three daughters, all of which have called Mountain Vista home. III COACHING STAFF 2016-17 MVHS GIRLS BASKETBALL 27
