2. Consumerism
• Consumerism is a social and economic order
and ideology that encourages the acquisition
of goods and services in ever-increasing
amounts.
3. CONSUMERISM
With the industrial revolution, but particularly
in the 20th century, mass production led to
an economic crisis: there
was overproduction – the supply of goods
would grow beyond consumer demand, and
so manufacturers turned to planned
obsolescence and advertising to increase
consumer spending.

• Environmentalism is an organized movement
of concerned citizens, businesses, and
government agencies to protect and improve
people’s living environment.
8. • ENVIRONMENTALISM is the marketing
system’s goal should not be to maximize
consumption, consumer choice, or
satisfaction, but rather to maximize life
quality.
• Environmental costs should be included in
both producer and consumer decision making.
• People and organizations should operate with
more care for the environment.
