Top Career Choices
The top five careers that the assessment provided for me were quite diverse. They are Job
Development Specialist, Law Professor, Neuropsychologist, Special Education Administrator,
and Health Care Social Worker. A Job Development Specialist helps disadvantaged, under-
educated applicants either find job skills training programs or job openings. They work with
organizations to put these people to work and they track the success of these applicants. A Law
Professor teaches courses in law. It can include teaching and research. A Neuropsychologist
helps brain-injured individuals resume productive lives. Their primary job is to evaluate these
individuals. Their emotions, skills, abilities, and behaviors are assessed for the proper treatment
needed. Special Education Administrator works with schools and state institutions develop
education programs and policies for mentally and physically disabled children. They also
supervisor placement of students, training for teachers, administer budget, and federal grant
monies. Health Care Social Worker basically provided psychological support for people and
their families deal with chronic, acute, or terminal illnesses.
Career and Future Plans
My career choice is to work within Children’s Protective Services. I will first work as a
case worker than work in the Human Resource Department. Two of the careers in the assessment
are close to my personal goals: Job Development Specialist and Health Care Social Worker.
These careers require some of the same classes and degree that I am working toward. Those
some of these careers sound fascinating; I still will head in the direction I am going. It could be
because I have become a part of this community or because I understand the need.
Understanding the need is the reason I want to become a part of this organization. The

assessment did help me decide to take some psychology classes as well. Looking at these
potential careers brought a couple of things to mind. My daughter right before she was placed in
my home lost her biological mother to cancer. The case worker was inexperienced and did not do
a very good job helping her cope with this loss. The requirements for the Health Care Social
Worker brought this to mind and some of the skills required include classes in psychology. Also
the Job Development Specialist brought to mind a problem the state has been trying to deal with.
Children aging out of foster care. These children do not have a support system and in a lot of
cases no job skills. Children being bounced from home to home are unlikely have the educational
background to be able to get into a good college or financially able to stay within college. I like
that these jobs description help me to broaden my outlook and my education goals so I can
possible help in these areas within the system. The Special Education Administrator career is
someone who works closely with CPS because some of the children come into foster care
mentally and physically disabled. I feel that even though the exact career was not pinpointed in
my assessment, it is still something that I could have a good future in. It seems that the same
skills for the positions on the assessment align with the skills needed for case worker and HR
management.
Connections
My own career choice is a case worker and then Human Resource manager. My three
areas of concentration are Human and Family Development, Communication Studies, and
Human Resource Development. The classes in Human and Family Development along will help
with the case worker position. These classes focus on child development but also offer classes in
families in crisis, cross cultural perspective, parenting, and basic development classes.
Communication Studies also has a wide range of courses to aid in my future career goal. From

nonverbal communication, intercultural communications, persuasion, to communication in
relationships. Human Resource Development offers a wide range of classes that help in
preparing for a career in Human Resources. These areas of concentration will work well together
in my future career goals. These classes will help me learn how to deal with families and
children in crisis and how to effectively communicate with them. Human Resources within the
system will help me better understand the job criteria for a case worker so I can better aid them.
Whether in job recruiting or training the personnel with job related skills, I am learning how to
put these classes to work for me in my career endeavors.
Conclusion
The assessment broke down my interest by interest, personality, and even my leisure
interest. In all parts of the assessment it states that I am social, the helper. My personality type is
described as caring about the well-being of others. I can deal with them tactfully, with sympathy,
and provide practical help to support their needs. It also states in choosing my career that I am
attracted to occupations that combines my ability to carefully observe and use the facts to
provide help to other people. Career occupation examples are human resource management,
community services, and counseling. The assessment helps me realize that I have chosen my
career path wisely. It may not have pick exactly the job or career that I am aiming for but it does
state that my personality and interest fall under the same category as my career goals. The other
way it helped me decided to wide my education periphery. I have decided to take some classes in
psychology. I believe these will also be beneficial in my career.
