2. Personal Statement My name is Fredrinna Miller and I live in Winston-Salem, NC where I am an insurance agent. My long-term goals are eventually get my Masters in either counseling or I/O Psychology. I recently became interested in the study of workplace behavior and would love to further my studies in that area. For now, I just look forward to graduating and getting my degree finally. It took me a long time to get to this point. I really been through a lot in 2011, having a house fire, loosing all my personal things, many that were irreplaceable, but I can honestly say I am humbled. I accomplished one of my main goals in life to get a Psychology degree while going through my problems. I did not give up and I am thankful to be here today and to have a chance to learn. One of my favorite quotes: “The difference between school and life? In school, you're taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you're given a test that teaches you a lesson.” (Tom Bodett) Attending Argosy was a test that taught me a lesson how to learn to appreciate the convenience of online education and its advantages. I tried to go back to school several times but it was hard with three children to attend classes, and work full time. Online education is the best and what I have learned here will last a life time.

4. Reflection Overall its been a great experience here at Argosy. I had a hard time adjusting to online education but it clearly disciplined me to learn at my own pace. I have taken various courses which have increase my knowledge in the field of psychology. Some courses I struggled such as Research Methods, but others I did very well such as Interpersonal Effectiveness and Interviewing Techniques. Although I obtained different grades I have learned much out of each course. My SSAL revealed both strengths and weaknesses in my tenure here. The main weakness I encountered was moderate exposure in Research: Understanding Research Methods. I showed weakness in summarizing research designs and statistical tools Both extensive and significant exposure to Communication skills: written. Posting discussions, writing many essays has help me to communicate better interactively helping me to improve my APA style and stregthen my ability to develop, apply and defend my posts that were related to psychological concepts.
5. Cognitive Abilities: Critical Thinking and Information Literacy I received transfer credit for the cognitive courses I had taken at my prior college. There were some courses that cognitive abilities were revealed and applied. In PSY361: Personality Theory we learned about the various approaches to observing behavior. My paper on Observational Behaviorism reveal how we observe outer behavior but I did include that cognitive perspective need to be considered because it focuses on the internal mental thoughts of the individual.
6. Communication Skills: Oral and Written Communication is very important during the interview process. In me I/O Psychology class my essay focused on how the I/O psychologist may have to compose questioning for the prospective employees for new jobs or current employees for promotions and decide if the meet the criteria for the position. During the interview process communication is a key element both listening and talking.
7. ResearchSkills Several research methods in psychology leaned and applied to the weekly assignments and discussions. My paper on using observational methods to look at specific behavior focuses on observation with intervention and observation without intervention. The student in the essay was using the method in his research project. I elaborated on how he used observations to record data.
8. Ethics and Diversity Awareness Multi cultural interview paper uploaded in Box.net file.
9. Applied Psychology Applies psychological principles to personal, social, and/or organizational issues. Document about observational learning and media violence in Boxshare file.
10. My Future in Learning Learning is definitely a lifelong process. I will continue to take advantage of every opportunity I have to learn and increase my knowledge. I read that 80% of effective communication is active listening. The more I listen the more I will learn. Its never too late to learn new things, expand and apply what I have learned to everyday life and my career. My hopes are to get a Masters degree and pursue a new career in counseling so that I can help others and learn from them as well.
