2. LEVOCETRIZINE
Levocetrizine (As di-hydrochloride) is a third-generation, non-sedating anti-
histamine developed from Cetrizine, the second-generation anti-allergic drug.
Chemically, Levocetrizine is the levorotatory enantiomer of Cetrizine and is
known as the active enantiomer.
It is a selective H1 receptor antagonist and prevents/treats allergy.
Its affinity to human H1 receptors is two-fold higher than cetrizine.
Rapidly absorbed after oral absorption and peak plasma conc. Is achieved in
about one hour.
Elimination half-life is 8-10 hrs.
3. MONTELUKAST
Montelukast belongs to a class of drugs called Leukotriene receptor antagonists
and helps to decrease inflammation and nasal congestion.
It is a cys LT1 antagonist.
This action helps to improve symptoms of Asthma as well as symptoms of
allergic rhinitis.
It blocks the action of Leukotreines on cystenil leukotreine receptor (cys LT1) in
the lungs and bronchial tubes by binding to it. This removes Broncho-
constriction.
USES: Used in asthma, exercise-induced broncho-spasm, allergic rhinitis,
urticaria.
4. COMBINATION OF LEVOCETRIZINE AND
MONTELUKAST PROVIDES COMPREHENSIVE RELIEF
FROM ALLERGY AND INFLAMMATION IN RESPIRATORY
DISORDERS LIKE ASTHMA AND SEASONAL/PERINNEAL
ALLERGIC RHINITIS.
