1. Benito Pérez Galdós lived between 1843 and 1920. It is noteworthy that Galdós is considered one
of the most important novelists of Spanish literature of the 19th and early 20th centuries, and that
his work is very diverse and addresses social, political, and religious themes. Some of his most
outstanding works, such as "Fortunata and Jacinta" and "National Episodes," are mentioned, and
his political and social commitment is discussed, as well as his interest in Spanish history and
culture. His influence on Spanish literature and culture is also highlighted, as is his literary and
cultural legacy. It was discovered many years later after his death that he had a love affair with
Emilia Pardo Bazán. The text also talks about his last years of life and how his blindness, which he
acquired in 1913 and which almost caused him to lose his complete vision, and economic
difficulties made his last years very sad.
