• Until 2019 December the era in which we live was
called as Postmodern era
• From 2020 January onwards we are in a new era
Covidism
• Globally an era of virus, infection, disease and
death, vaccination
• An epidemic becomes a pandemic
• All that we achieved in 20th Century helped the
spread and speed of the virus
• Covid has affected human life globally, politically,
economically, socially, religiously, commercially,
educationally, medically, in family life, personal
life etc.
12. Thanato-phobia
• Thanatophobia = fear of death.
• a fear of death / a fear of the dying process.
• natural for the sick and elderly
• But today most of the people
• Suicidal OCD (Oobsessive Kompulsive Disorder)
13. Noso-phobia
• Nosophobia = fear of developing a disease
• Also known as disease phobia
• hypochondriasis = fear that existing physical symptoms may be the
result of an undiagnosed disease
14. Optimism Bias
• Optimism: overestimating future positive events and underestimating
future negative events*
• Daily one may fluctuate between optimism and pessimism*
• Optimism Bias: mistaken belief that one's chances of experiencing a
negative event are lower (or a positive event higher) than that of one's
peers (author: Weinstein 1980)
• President Trump: “Take it easy”
• Keralites: “I am safe”
• NRIs (“optimistic for air lift but later left in the air”)
• Other term: "unrealistic optimism," "illusion of invulnerability," "illusion
of unique invulnerability, and "personal fable."
15. Can we define Covidism
• Covidism is a new way of thinking and living forced by a disease causing
virus called corona; disease phobia and death phobia reigns the world;
protecting oneself and others through lockdown, social distance,
masks, washing hands has become the priority in life; it has affected
human life physically, psychologically, spiritually, environmentally,
politically, economically, socially, religiously, commercially,
educationally, medically, in family life, personal life etc. Its positive and
negative effects are far reaching.
• All that we achieved in postmodern era helped the spread and speed of
the virus; a epidemic had become a pandemic. In the coming years we
will experiences both the positive and negative effects of covidism.

17. Theodicy and Covidism
• The central theme of Theodicy is the Problem of evil
• Suffering of the innocent!
• Covid 19 has killed thousands, destroyed many families through
the death of their loved ones
• Millions became poor
• Unemployment and hunger have led many to suicide
• Rape and Theft are on the increase
• WHERE IS GOD? IS GOD GOOD? IS GOD OMNIPOTENT?
