  1. 1. Team NextG 1 | P a g e Plastic pollution is one of the pressing issues globally nowadays. According to prediction, the rising of plastics use will result in more plastics than fishes in the world’s oceans by 2050. Unfortunately, Bangladesh ranked 10th in the list of most plastic contaminating nations in the world. One of the reasons for this pollution problem is single-use-throw-away culture.1 A study found that the plastic recycling process is not maintained properly in Bangladesh. Only around 28% of recyclable is being recycled every year, leaving 72% potential plastic waste.2 These unprocessed plastics wastes are responsible for human health, waterlogging in major cities and environment pollution.3 In a survey, plastic products were summing up to 70% of total waste in four beaches (Inani Beach, Laboni Beach, Anada Bazar Beach, and Patenga Beach) of Bangladesh.4 1 https://www.thedailystar.net/opinion/environment/news/alarming-plastic-pollution-the-bay- bengal-1784278 2 https://www.thefinancialexpress.com.bd/views/plastic-pollution-1546964477 3 http://www.newagebd.net/article/83179/plastic-pollution-poses-threat-to-bangladesh 4 https://www.dhakatribune.com/bangladesh/environment/2018/12/17/reckless-plastic-waste- dumping-greatly-endangering-bay-of-bengal BACKGROUND
  2. 2. Team NextG 2 | P a g e “Do It Yourself (DIY)” culture can be one of the useful solutions to reduce plastic pollution problem. There are plenty of tutorials, videos, and projects of making crafts from plastics on the Internet. It is observed that many useful goods such as bookshelf, sofa, table, and many other things can be made of plastics. These products look nice, stable, and cheap. People have shown interest in this kind of crafts in a survey but most of them don’t get time to make these crafts on their own. Hence, making crafts from used plastics and selling them in a market place has great potential. SOLUTION
