Secured and flexible control of access layer
• Use Aruba ClearPass authentication and switch’s User Role to
tunnel selective user/device to the Aruba Controllers
• Policies (e.g. QoS, ACL, VLAN, rate-limit) can be enforced at
Tunneled Node ports
Access to Controller’s applications
• Users can access Controller’s applications such as stateful firewall
and Aruba AppRF
Higher availability and scalability
• Load balance to multiple controllers for high scalability
• Stateful failover to standby management module for high availability
• Sticky controller: avoid bouncing tunneled sessions between
different controllers
Available on the Aruba 5400R with v3, 3810, 2930F, 2930M
• Requires AOS 8.1 or later in the controllers
*Requires ArubaOS-Switch 16.04 software release
21
Downloadable User Roles
Single point of policy management
– Dynamically assigned by ClearPass at the time
of authentication
Builds on top of the existing local User Roles
– Every user/device is assigned a User Role
– User Role policies include QoS, VLAN, ACL,
Rate Limits
Consistent wired/wireless policy management
– Same as WLAN AP, simplify policy configuration
and management

Aruba 2930F and 2930M – Two Powerful Choices
When to buy the 2930F
• Easy 8 member front plane stacking over 1 or 10GbE
ports with no additional module required
• Lower PoE+ power requirements: for 24 (370 Watts)
or 48 ports supports 370 or 740 Watts
• Convenient models with built-in 10GbE uplinks for
those customers anticipating needing greater bandwidth
• 2930F Series has the only compact and quiet 8-port
fanless models with 10GbE uplinks (JL258A Aruba
2930F 8G PoE+ 2SFP+ Switch and JL692A Aruba
2930F 8G PoE+ 2SFP+ TAA Switch)
• No redundant or additional power options
When to buy the 2930M
• Dedicated backplane stacking (10 member) with
optional stacking module
• Stacking with other 2930Ms (requires stacking module in each
stacked unit)
• When customer requires dedicated bandwidth for stacking
• Redundant power requirements: Two-built in power
supply bays for redundant power in a 1U form factor
• Lots of PoE+ power required: 2930M for full power 48-
port PoE switch with up to 1440 Watts of PoE power
budget
• Future proofing with High Power PoE: 2930M models
support IEEE 802.3bt for up to 60W of PoE per port
• HPE Smart Rate connectivity: New Smart Rate models

Editor's Notes

  1. Despite this rapidly changing technology and business landscape, campus infrastructure hasn’t seen much design and software innovation over the past few decades and hasn’t kept up with the added complexity of the environment with mission critical mobility, and the increasing need for visibility and quick remediation and the scalability demanded by the surge in business dependent network traffic. In the core of the network, the old approach has become particularly brittle.  Operations relying on CLI for manual configuration and troubleshooting are error prone.  Network visibility via log data requires off-line (delayed and incomplete) analysis.  Inflexible networks require hard-coding to integrate with services. Basically trying to use networking technologies, network infrastructure that was designed for the 20th century, back when mobile, IoT and cloud did not exist, puts IT in a tough spot, more demands on IT…and the network. Trends are placing crunch on network infrastructure, not designed for mobility, When we talk with customers, we’re hearing that Mobility is mission critical – network must be reliable and resilient.

  3. What’s earned our spot as #1 in Gartner’s Critical Capabilities Wired Refresh and Unified Wired/wireless Use Cases is our broad portfolio of leading edge campus switches that are designed with innovative technology, simple, informative, powerful. Our Aruba campus switch portfolio ranges from Layer 2 all the way to high availability campus core. Provide more information on these solutions later in this presentation but first let’s talk about why they are special, what Aruba has done to justify their #1 spot in the Critical Capabilities report.

  7. (See link to customer testimonial video) We have a customer called Blue Dog RV from Idaho who sells and services RV’s- they’re the 2nd largest trailer company in the country. Now this is a customer where they have a huge warehouse with RV’s coming in and out which technicians need to repair. These workers use laptops for all their repairs and transactions, so when they started experiencing spotty wi-fi signals and loss of connectivity…technician’s laptops would disconnect in the middle of a transaction, causing all the service notes to disappear- making them start all over again and redo the whole process. Now Blue Dog RV does not have an extensive IT department, in fact they had one single IT person, Justin, who covers 13 different sites and 400 employees. With only one IT person, they were looking an easy to use cloud management software that could manage both their wired and wireless networks. They used a combination of Aruba switches managed by Aruba Central which gave them an easy to manage network that is reliable and accessible. We have a video on this customer which you can find linked to this slide.
