2. Hector Guimard
• (10 March 1867 – 20 May 1942) was a French architect, who is
now the best-known representative of the Art Nouveau style.
• He attended the ’’École nationale supérieure des arts
décoratifs’’.
• His iconic elememt in his design are decorative art , use of
organic form , natural form and more angular contour.
• He used sinus curve extensively with metal , stained glass ,
mixed use of local material and brick too.
• Plans of the building generally have simple geometry , form
follows function , presence of vestibule.
• His design were recognized after 15 years of his death, as many
art historians have praised his architectural and decorative
work.
3. Castel Béranger

• Style – Art Nouveau
Design context
• Earlier designing an apartment building in a traditional
style , before he went to Brussels. When he returned,
her persuaded his client to allow him to build the
structure in the new style.
• Started every detail of the designing the furniture,
ornamental ironwork, carpets, glass, wall paper, door
locks and doorknobs.
• There was growing criticism of the identical facades so
he introduced an original style of decorative art.

Design context
• He want to symbolize plants as a part of Art
Nouveau designs in cast iron and glass .
• Rather than stone, Guimard used cast iron set in
concrete both to reduce costs and to suit the sinuous
Art Nouveau forms. Iron also suite for sidewalk as
stones too bulky. Cast iron were painted in a green .
• He designed standardized components, including
railing cartouches incorporating the letter "M“
symbolize ‘’metro’’
• He designed 141 entrance out of them 86 still exist
