Audio Visual aids are instructional devices in which the message can be heard and
seen simultaneously.
Examples: television, video films, documentary films, etc.,
These instructional aids are devices that assist an instructor or the teacher in the
teaching-learning process
they are supplementary teaching devices.

1st gen- Handmade charts, graphs, exhibits, models, etc.,
2nd gen – Printed or Illustrated texts, printed graphics, workbooks,etc
3rd gen – photographs, slides, flims, radio, tape recorder, telecast,etc.,
4th gen – TV, Language Lab, ICT based aids like computer, multimedia,
touch screen mobiles, etc.,
5. According to sense involved:
Audio aids – Message can be heard – like radio, tape recorder,etc.,
Visual aids – Message can been seen- posters, flashcards, charts,etc.,
Audio Visual Aids – can be heard and seen simultaneously- TV, videos,
documentary film,etc.,
Acording to projection:
Non-Projected Aids – simply presented without any projection equipment-
blackboard, chart, etc.,
Projected Aids- shown with projector – slides, filmstrip, OHP, etc.,
Display Aids – visual aids are spread before the audience for viewing
information or instruction- poster, bulletin, models,etc.,
Presentation Aids – visual aids are presented or projected to audience to view
at the same time explain or present the message of the visuals- PPT, flash
cards, slides, etc.,
