This document summarizes recent entrepreneurship trends in local and international levels. It discusses two main trends: 1) Electronic commerce (e-commerce) which has grown rapidly in Indonesia with examples like Lazada, and 2) Financial technology (FinTech) investments which have increased globally with examples like Ant Financial. The document provides background on these trends, examples at local and international levels, and references for further information.

4. Local level

In recent years, there is a rapid growth in the development of information technology and
internet services, proven by the technological advancement in communication devices and
social media, which leads to the increase in number of e-commerce shops (Laohapensang, 2009;
Quoted by Viana et al., 2017).
Trade is no longer defined as a direct face-to-face interactions between traders and buyers.
Distance is merely seen as a barrier. Businesses nowadays can be done online, known as
e-commerce. It provides everybody the chance to make a purchase of product from all around
the world. In 2014, online transactions had reached USD 12 billion, equivalent to IDR 150 trillion,
which could even still be pushed up to IDR 6000 trillion (Viana et al., 2017).

7. International level

FinTech refers to the development of innovation-based technology in the financial markets and
services such as digital payment systems, electronic currencies, online investment or finance
platforms, and data analytics. It has significantly grow from time to time, bringing great influence
towards the traditional ways previously used (Brummer and Gorfine, 2014).
In 2008, global investment in FinTech had went up thrice from $930 million to approximately $3
billion. 5 years later, 83% of the global investment was obtained by the FinTech industry in the
United States. Major cities adopting this development include London, New York, and Silicon Valley.
With this pace, it is expected for investments in this industry to exceed $8 billion by 2018
(Brummer and Gorfine, 2014).

Has a minimum market capitalization of $60 billion.
