3. Sir C. V. Raman was a great scientist of India who won
the first noble prize in the field of Physics.
He was born on Nov 7,1888 at Trichy in Tamilnadu
Chandrashekhar Iyer and Parvathi Ammal were his
parents.
From his boyhood days he was very much interested in
science that he used to read and borrow science books
from college.
Even as a small boy he had made the model of
Dynamo.
4. He got first class in his matriculation examination only at the
age of 12 and also he did M.A. in Physics
He passed competitive exam so he got appointed as Deputy
Accountant General in 1907 at Calcutta and in 1911 he
promoted as Special Accountant General
After working at Calcutta University for fifteen years as a
Professor he became the Director of Indian Institute of
Science
In 1948 he started Raman Research Institute
While on a voyage to Europe he saw the blue of
Mediterranean sea this led to work on laws of Light
Scattering in Liquids, this ended in discovery of RAMAN
EFFECT.
5. During his lifetime Raman received a number of
Doctorates and Honors.
In 1929 he was Knighted by King George fifth and
become SIR C. V. RAMAN.
In 1954 Government of India awarded him Bhratha
Rathna.
Soviet Union honored him by awarding International
Lenin Prize in 1957.
The man who achieved all these died on Nov 21, 1970
at the age of 82
