Born on January 29, 1954.
Her parents were not married and she spent the first
six years of her life living with her grandmother on a
farm in Mississippi.
From the time she was a little girl she was a gifted
speaker.
She would often recite verses in her grandmothers
church.

When she was six she went to live with her Mother in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Her mother never gave her the attention that she
craved.
She was often left in the care of her relatives of
neighbors.
When she was still young she was raped by her
cousin and then later by her uncle.
4. History
At age 14 she gave birth to a premature child that
didn’t live but a few days.
She was sent to live with her Father who, with the help
of her stepmother, guided her to turn her life around.
Her father and stepmother gave her all the attention
that she never got from her mother and decided to
make something of her life.
5. College
Oprah attended Tennessee State University were she
studied speech and the performing arts.
In 1972 she dropped out in the middle of her
sophomore year.
6. Work Experience
She worked part-time for a radio station called WVOL
After she dropped out of college she became an
anchor on WTFV-TV.
She was the first black woman to hold that position.
In 1976 she moved to WJZ-TV to be a reporter then
eventually a co-anchor.
7. Work Experience
Two years after arrival she was given the job of
hosting their talk show called “People are Talking”.
In 1984 she tool over a local Chicago talk show that
soon became the Oprah Winfrey show.
She earned an Oscar for “The Color Purple”
It was not long until she became a national hit.
8. Still Talking
She still devoted much of her time to acting.
Produced a film called “Their Eyes Were Watching
God”
“Charlotte’s Web” “Bee Movie” “The Princess and the
Frog” are some on the animated movies that she was
in.
9. Now
The Oprah Winfrey show will end in 2011.
The Oprah Winfrey show lasted 24 seasons.
Oprah now has a network called “The Oprah Winfrey
Network”.
She spends her time helping and inspiring others who
have come from were she has come from and is
helping them turn their lives around.
