The document discusses the impacts of the Green Revolution on agriculture and the environment. It notes that while the Green Revolution initially increased food productivity, it did so through heavy reliance on synthetic fertilizers and pesticides which caused problems over time including pest resistance, soil degradation, and health issues. It then introduces humic acid as a solution to improve soil and plant health without chemicals. Finally, it discusses the work of GreenFoot EcoHealth Initiatives in promoting natural and sustainable agricultural practices to address issues caused by intensive chemical usage while increasing yields and farmer incomes.
2. GREEN REVOLUTION
• The Green Revolution was the technological response to a world-wide
food shortage which became threatening in the period after World War II.
• The advent of Green Revolution introduced by Norman Borlaug in the
1960s saw a paradigm shift in the agricultural practices the world over.
• With food security becoming a serious matter of concern, something
magical had to be done.
• With the introduction of Hybrid Seeds, Improved irrigation systems,
Improvised machinery,
• Substantial use of synthetic fertilizers and chemicals and high dependence
on Pesticides the food productivity graph shot up to dizzy heights in no time.

3. BOON OR BANE?
The lush productivity brought with it a host of pests and pest related
problems. Changing pest morphology made the pests develop
resistance to various chemicals within short time.
Two to Three decades down the line people world over were beginning
to wonder whether this Revolution was indeed a BOON or a BANE?
The biggest problems the Green revolution brought about were :
• Presence of some dangerous forms of pests
• Pesticides lead to diseases in humans
• Does not help increase the fertility of the soil
• Leads to land and soil degradation
• Affects agricultural biodiversity
• Serious risk of some form of cancer
• Over dependence on artificial fertilizers

4. EVIDENT EFFECTS
OF THE GREEN
REVOLUTION
• Children in Kasargod, Kerala, India where a pesticide called Endosulfan
• was sprayed excessively for years together causing birth defects and
• various other diseases in children and the generations to follow.
• Endosulfan has now been banned by the Govt. of India.
• Soil as hard as rock, with no space for water or aeration. This is the long-
term effect of chemical fertilizers on the soil.

5. HUMIC ACID – THE SOLUTION
Even if your soil is in marginal condition, Humic Acids can
improve its performance.
Although fertilizer provides a good source of nutrients to
plants, it rarely offers any benefits to the soil. When Humic
Acids are applied to sandy soil, they help it retain water and
provide organic matter, both of which are essential to good
plant growth.
Some fertilizers are mobile within soil, potentially leaching
out of root zones in sandy soil. These fertilizers can be held
for longer periods of time in the root zone with the assistance
of granular Humic Acids, which will allow plants to absorb
more nutrients.
In compacted soils or hard pan, adding Humic Acid can help
break up such soils, allowing the available nutrients to reach
deeper into the root zone.

6. EFFECT OF HUMIC ACIDS ON MICRO ORGANISMS
The incorporation of Humic Acid fractions in media
designed for the enumeration of soil micro-organisms
belonging to specific physiological groups was found to
result for some groups in appreciably higher counts.
It is suggested that by influencing the enzyme systems of
certain micro-organisms, humic compounds may affect
the range of substrates which they can utilize.
In simpler terms, Humic acids aids in boosting the micro
organism activity in the soil.

7. WHERE DOES GREEN FOOT FIT IN?
The idea is to make a plant improve its natural immunity
towards pests, increase productivity and reduce farmer
costs - all of these without any use of chemicals. An arduous
task, but not impossible.
It was here, where Greenfoot Ecohealth Initiatives Pvt. Ltd.
came into existence.
In this scenario of commendable yet regrettable past and
faint future, we at Greenfoot have been striving to create
awareness to embrace natural practices in all walks of life
just as our forefathers had done for a healthy living so as to
leave a bright future for the generations to come.
We are the pioneers to bring forth the importance of soil
health today. We not only market certified organic inputs
but also impress the logic behind every action. All our
products not only have the power of nature packed in them
but the logical application of these in small quantities
produce magical results within short period of time.

8. Sustainable Agriculture
8
Sustainable agriculture is at the heart of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable
Development Goals and is the first fundamental step to securing zero hunger.
There has been considerable discussion over the past thirty years on how to
define “sustainable agriculture”. In the past, it had been defined primarily along
environmental criteria. If the soil was bad, or if water was not managed well, then
a farm might have been considered unsustainable. In recent years, however, there
has been a realization that being sustainable reaches much further, to include
economic and social dimensions, and putting farmers in the center. If a farm is not
economically sound or not resilient to external shocks, or if the well-being of
those working on a farm are not considered, then a farm cannot be sustainable.
We at Green Foot are committed to make a difference to the world by offering
solutions to make this SDG a reality.

SOUTH EAST ASIA
• Apart from India, our Organic inputs have proved to be beneficial and improve yield and
soil health in the provinces of Malaysia and Indonesia.
We have also signed an MoU with one of the business giants of Malaysia, who have their
sights set on improving the quality of life and produce in their country.
• In Indonesia, we have worked with farmers at the grassroot level to understand their
core problems and come up with customised solutions for them. We have collaborated with
brands there to develop unique products that cater to the soil and produce type of
Indonesia.
