The definition of intonation is the way the pitch of your voice goes up and down as you talk or reciting something by singing it. An example of intonation is the way your voice raises in pitch at the end of a question.

 Intonation is the music of the language. In English, we use
tone to signal an emotion, questions and parts of a sentence
among many other things.
 It is important to recognize the meaning behind those tones to
avoid misunderstandings between the listener and speaker.
 Mistakes in intonation has a lasting impression.
