Cpr for an adult
1. How to give CPR to an
adult
By: Scarlett Hernandez
2. What is cpr?
• CPR stands for Cardiopulmonary
resuscitation, cardio meaning heart,
pulmonary meaning lungs, and
resuscitation meaning revive.
• If done right, you can save a life.
3. Step 1
• Make sure the scene is safe.
• Don’t become another victim.
4. Step 2
• Check for unresponsiveness. Shake
the person, call out to him and if
they don’t respond, continue to step
3.
5. Step 3
• Direct someone to call 911. If alone,
call 911 before you do anything else.
6. Step 4
• Look, listen and feel for normal
breathing(no more than 10 seconds).
• If there is no sign of breathing, give
two slow breaths, about 2 seconds for
each. Watch to see if the chest rises
and falls to make sure the air reaches
the lungs.
7. Step 5
• Check for signs of circulation by
feeling for a pulse on the neck or
wrist.
8. Step 6
• Begin chest compression if there are
no signs of circulation.
• Locate the sternum and do 15 chest
compressions at a rate of 100 per
minute
9. step 7
• Give two more deep, slow breaths.
• You may want to use a mask to
prevent the spread of germs, but only
if you have one, don’t be looking for
one while the victim is unconscious on
the floor.
10. Step 8
• Repeat 15 chest compressions,
followed by two slow breaths until
medical help arrives.
11. Step 9
• If the victim recovers, place in a
recovery position and monitor until
medical help arrives.
12. Tips and Warnings
• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR,
keeps a person's blood and oxygen
pumping to the brain and heart until
help can arrive in an emergency.
• Make sure the victim is on a solid
surface when doing chest compressions.
If you do not see the chest rise and fall,
your breaths may not be entering
his/her lungs. Adjust the head position
and try again.
• Using a mask can prevent the spread of
germs, and if another rescuer is
available, let them help, for you will
become tired if you do cpr alone.
