Nursing research is the process of improving the nursing profession through advancing knowledge and skills in patient care. It helps nurses test existing knowledge and generate new knowledge to guide practice and provide quality, evidence-based care. Research in nursing also systematically develops knowledge about nursing practice, education, and administration to investigate nursing diagnoses and care techniques. Evidence-based practice then applies this research through utilizing the best available evidence to provide holistic patient care.

ASSIGNMENT NO.1
In your own understanding, describe/explain the following:
1. Nursing Research
>>> Nursing research is the process of improving the nursing profession. It is a
body of knowledge that helps advance nursing practice which anticipates better quality
care. Additionally, it pertains to the process of collecting and validating information that
elevates the standard of global healthcare. It helps nurses in advancing their knowledge
and skills in patient care through the utilization of different equipment and materials
which are products of research and technology. Nursing research is the testing of
knowledge that can be used to guide nursing practice.
2. Research in Nursing
>>> As we know, nursing is a field of medicine that has a wide scope and
responsibility, may it be in academe, hospital setting, nursing research as well as to the
various sectors of industry. Research in nursing is a systematic approach designed to
develop knowledge about issues regarding the different areas of nursing such as nursing
practice, nursing education and nursing administration. Through this, nurses are enabled
to investigate more carefully about the various nursing diagnosis and other problems.
Moreover, it creates new techniques to care which provides quality care to patients.
Indeed, research in nursing updates information on various fields where the nurses are
involved.
3. Evidence-Based Practice
>>> Evidenced-based practice refers to the utilization and application of research
findings to provide holistic and quality care to patients. It focuses on up-to-date
research and knowledge rather than traditional or belief practices. It requires thorough
analysis and review of knowledge before incorporating it into nursing practice.
Evidenced-based practice is crucial to refrain from actions that are not acceptable in a
clinical setting. Activities undertaken are based on using the best evidence available.
4. Importance of Research in Nursing
• It is important in advancing nursing knowledge to provide quality care and clinical
evidence-based nursing practice.
• To validate existing knowledge and generate new knowledge that will enhance
nursing practice, nursing education and nursing administration.
• Research in Nursing tries to address a certain curiosity that leads to the benefit of
the whole.
5. Sources of Human Knowledge
1. Superstition - Gaining knowledge through subjective feeling, not empirical to logical
interpreting random events as nonrandom events or believing in magical events
2. Intuition - Gaining knowledge without being conscious. Not empirical or logical aware
of where the knowledge came from.
3. Authority - Gaining knowledge from those viewed as authority figures.
4. Rationalism - Gaining knowledge to logical reasoning.
5. Empiricism - Gaining knowledge through observations of organisms and events in the
real world.
