• The term emotional intelligence was 1st coined by
John Mayer and Peter Salovey in 1990.
• It was popularized by Daniel Goleman through
his book Emotional Intelligence:Why It Can
Matter More Than IQ in 1995.
3. DEFINITION
According to Peter Salovey and John Mayer
“Emotional intelligence is the subset of social intelligence that
involves the ability to monitor one’s own and others feelings and
emotions, to discriminate among them and to use its information to
guide one’s thinking and actions”
5. EDUCATIONAL IMPLICATIONS
• Students with higher levels of emotional intelligence are able to
keep a check on their emotions better and be empathetic to others
around them. This can help them develop improved self-
motivation and more effective communication skills-essential skills
to helping students become more confident learners
• Some others will be sensitive and less likely to experience bullying
