2. • Music videos can be described as a marketing tool that
consists of a ‘short film.’
• They integrate a song and are created in order to provide a
visual, and artistic aid for the publics’ viewing pleasure.
• The main purpose, reason for having or creating a music
video, is solely to promote the single, the album that the
single is from and – most importantly – the artist.
• The music videos are a major contributor to the artists image
and how they are represented in the public eye.
3. • In order for the promotion of the artist to come across to the
public successfully, there are certain things it has to do:
- The video must be artistic enough and sell the song in a way that’ll allow
the audience to remember it when they’ve finished viewing the video.
- The narrative of the music video must be successful enough that it allows
the audience to engage and get a better understanding of the song both
audibly, and visually.
- The performances provided by the artist(s) within the video purpose is to
provide entertainment to the audience and highlight the talents of the
artist.
4. An example of a video I consider to be a good example of the
music video form is
Jesse J – Do it like a dude.

I believe this is a good example as it seems to successfully do
everything required of a music video in order to promote the
artist.
5. • There is quite a gritty, urban, different tone portrayed within this video
that goes conjointly with the raw feelings and empowering attitudes of
the song and it’s lyrics – the music is unique which allows it to stay into
viewers minds and remember the song along with the visual aid.
6. • The music video for ‘Do it like a Dude’ by Jessie J also does
provide the audience with a deeper understanding of the
song.
• The lyrics in the song speak about how woman can also act
and be as masculine and empowering as men are – and this
idea is displayed visually within the music video as there are is
a significant lack in femininity. All the woman are dressed
significantly masculine and are portrayed as masculine figures
– this connects to the meaning and message of the song.
7. • The music video does, additionally, provide entertainment for
the audience/viewers, as it highlights and demonstrates the
artists ability to dance - as well as sing.
• A dance sequence is carried out within the video by the main
artist and the other backing dancers.
