The purpose of this letter is to strongly recommend Shannon Freeman as a candidate for a
position at your organization. For several years at Motlow State Community College, I’ve had
the privilege of working alongside Shannon as a fellow professor of Psychology. Most notably,
Shannon and I have collaborated to increase student cultural awareness by implementing an
extensive International Module research project. This past academic year, 2013-2014, I was
promoted to Department Chair of Social Sciences, giving me the opportunity to observe
Shannon’s work ethic from an administrative perspective.
Shannon does an outstanding job in her position, oftentimes going beyond the call of duty to
accommodate the needs of both the students and the department. This level of dedication and
competence led to Shannon being the recipient of the 2013-2014 Motlow Faculty Excellence of
the Year award. On multiple occasions she has agreed to instruct Topics Courses, which helps
students lacking credit hours graduate on time. Topics Courses pay a considerably low amount
of money; instructing them is primarily an act of kindness, to increase student success. She has
excellent written and verbal communication skills, is extremely organized, can work
independently or collaboratively, is able to multi-task, possesses strong problem-solving skills,
and has a high level of academic and emotional intelligence. Shannon meets all of her
deadlines ahead of time and understands the meaning of professionalism. She always submits
her work and grades on time, provides timely feedback to students and colleagues, and aims
her work ethic at satisfying the mission of the college. Shannon is a courteous person, willing to
make sacrifices and to put others ahead of herself.
I am highly confident that if selected for this position, Shannon Freeman will surpass all
expectations. Genuinely speaking, your organization will have a difficult time finding a better fit
than Shannon.
