To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing this letter on behalf of Thomas Renner, who held an internship position
with the Department of Athletics at the University of Vermont during senior year of his
undergraduate studies. Thomas was also a student in my Event Planning for Athletics course
under the Community Development and Applied Economics Program. I have remained in good
touch with him since his graduation. Thomas was an exceptionally well round student,
possessing many strong characteristics that any professional organization would appreciate. He
was very well spoken and thoughtful in his efforts to succeed in our office and in the classroom.
As our special events intern, Thomas juggled many different responsibilities and was always
prepared. He was very detail oriented, attentive, and takes the initiatives on projects. The
thoughtfulness that Thomas put in to every task at hand was much appreciated. His engagement
with our fans, sponsors and donors, was impressive, as was his maturity. Thomas assisted in the
planning and executing two high profile events for the University – the Celebration of 50th Years
of Men’s Soccer and Men’s Hockey, Thomas was a crucial member of our special events
team to ensure success. He worked extremely well with our staff and also excelled when given
tasks to complete on his own. Thomas has a creative eye that I depended on often with these
events, and he was not afraid to speak up to make suggestions or ask questions. His warmth,
intelligence and drive have truly made him one of the best students I have taught and worked
with in my fourteen years with the University of Vermont.
I know Thomas would be a wonderful addition to the Leadership Program. Understanding the
type of high caliber, well-rounded character you look for in your students, I recommend him
without hesitation. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
