Revolutions come in many varieties. Some tear down established notions destructively, while others consist of forging new paradigms through constructive means such as an ideological or technological innovation that fundamentally alters an individual or group’s creative path. But all have their place in history. This paper charts a course of change in art and art styles, as been practiced by some modern-day Igbo artists. It follows the meandering path that has been influenced by technological advances that have in turn influenced art culture and practices in technique. In particular, this paper examines how the modern-day processes of digital art have attempted to broaden the modern-day Igbo artist’s knowledge base, and has influenced new ways of doing old things. Together these ideas have impacted modern-day art by creating a fertile landscape allowing an artist’s inquisitive tendency to take root and uniquely flourish. The aim of this paper is to analyze the various digital paintings produced by three modern-day Igbo artists (Ikenna Aghanya, Okechukwu Johnson and Chidi Onwuekwe) and in turn examine how the use of the computer, as an art tool has affected their creative process. The paper will also look at the functions of this medium as it pertains to each of the decorative paintings done by these artists.

For centuries, Africa has been home to a multitude of societies with different cultural landscapes, social structures, and strongly defined aesthetic ideals. In the absence of the written word, Africa’s legacy consists of a vast mélange of complex symbols, patterns, and signs. These aesthetically abstract configurations and unique characters replaced linguistic symbols commonly used for recording the history of remarkable events, the deeds of great kings, celebrations, births and deaths, and extraordinary occurrences. Mary Nooter Robert in Inscribing Identity: The Body, suggests “symbols that replaced letters or characters represent the sounds of a language, a logographic system in which a single character represents a word” (Robert 2007:57). Therefore, Africa has contributed to the world a rich tradition of typography; from ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, to rock inscriptions found throughout the Sahara Desert, as well as rock paintings and drawings in the Tassili Plateau of the Atlas Mountains in the Fezzan). In fact, the rich diversity of esoteric symbols throughout Africa has inspired both craftsmen and artists for centuries. They have refashioned the antiquated and unique into contemporary forms, which now appear etched on pottery, cast on bronze and precious metals, carved on wood, woven into textiles, stitched on cloth, or inscribed on the human body.

thGAP - Transgenic Human Germline Alternatives Project, presents an evening of input lectures, discussions and a performative workshop on artistic interventions for future scenarios of human genetic and inheritable modifications.
To begin our lecturers, Marc Dusseiller aka "dusjagr" and Rodrigo Martin Iglesias, will give an overview of their transdisciplinary practices, including the history of hackteria, a global network for sharing knowledge to involve artists in hands-on and Do-It-With-Others (DIWO) working with the lifesciences, and reflections on future scenarios from the 8-bit computer games of the 80ies to current real-world endeavous of genetically modifiying the human species.
We will then follow up with discussions and hands-on experiments on working with embryos, ovums, gametes, genetic materials from code to slime, in a creative and playful workshop setup, where all paticipant can collaborate on artistic interventions into the germline of a post-human future.

This week was spent editing the last of the footage together, adding audio, adding music and doing the
voice recording, all of this was completed and I’ve finished my production. The first day was spent
doing voice recording, when started in the morning my dad and I had creative differences so we came
back later in the day to do it, later in the day it took a long time but I was able to get the voice
recording done at the end of the day. On the morning of recording my dad’s acting was wooden and
the tone and emotion of his voice I felt didn’t match some of the scenes we were doing, this was what
lead to creative differences, later in the day, even though it wasn’t perfect, his acting felt real to the
character (he put on a scared voice for a scared man instead of a meh voice for a scared man like
earlier in the morning), his voice (even though over dramatic) fitted with the emotion and tone of the
character, it just look like he need energy to put on voices and have the right tone for the character and
his inner monologing. The next day was the editing which took three hours to do, first I trimmed the
voice recoding to match the footage but then I had to find non-copy righted music from YouTube and
make audio to make the scenes I filmed work, the music was easy to find because there were a lot of
Youtubers who don’t copy right there music, but the challenge was getting the music to last long
enough and fade instead of cutting off, I recorded the music for long enough to fit the footage and I
waited for it to finish so it wouldn’t uglily cut off (if it did I used the sound effects to muffle it). The
sound effects were harder to make which were: unsettling breathing, heartbeats, blinds closing and
opening, sword sheath, stabbing, dragging bodies, footsteps, alarm clock ringing, squeegee sounds,
kettle boiling and slurping, I made these sounds by; recording myself unsettlingly breathing, recording
my heartbeat after running to make it sound high, recording me closing the many blinds in my house,
recording me removing the kitchen knife from it’s mini scabbard, recording me use the kitchen knife to
stab meat, recoding my dad dragging me, recoding my feet walking, recording the alarm clock next to
my bed going off, recoding me rub a squeegee against a window, recording my kettle boiling and
recoding my dad slurping his coffee (which he does a lot), there may have been some sounds like a mild
suspense strike which I took form iMovie or YouTube and I places all of the sound effects were those
sounds are supposed to me in the movie (background noise stopped my recordings having proper
sounds.
