● A wide range of factors drive the consumption of an Air Handling Unit
● Their influence is very diverse
● They powerfully interact as a non-linear system (40 + equations)
● As of the beginning of this decade there was no tool helping figuring out
consumption = f(factors) and potential savings opportunities
● An energy manager was unable to decide how to build a strategy aimed at
cutting the energy bill
● ⇒ URGENT need for a tool

● 2011: first draft built with Excel for testing the concept
● 2012: A validation phase, operated on real Air Handling Units
● 2013: A first deployment across a bunch of sites (Sanofi was counting 120 + sites at that
time
○ quickly reaching the limit of such an Excel application (size > 200 Mo)
● 2014: decision to rebuild the application, this time based on Scilab ( Scilab dream team as
main developper)
● 2015: decision to transfer the application to the cloud (thanks again to the Scilab team
decisive support ). Application hosted by ESI.
● 2016: beginning of the worldwide deployment
● 2018: 52 connected sites (out of 73), 92 registred users.
● Decision to extend OPTICLIM utilisation outside Sanofi
