2. Expedition Details
• Location: Abu Sautir, El Quseir - Approx. 2 hours South of
Hurghada
• Duration: 6-7 weeks early June to end of July
• Working with Open Ocean Centre, Pharaoh Dive Club EL
Quseir and I-Dive Dahab
• Marine based research
• Staying in eco huts at a (incredible) remote desert camp
• £700-800 personal contribution
3. El Quseir
• Historical port 150km south of Hurghada and
150km North of Marsa Alam
• Site for GU 4th year tropical ecology field trip
• Stunning house reef and easy access to other
relatively untouched and beautiful sites
4. Current political situation
• Area around El Quseir, airport and
proposed travel routes considered
safe
• This years expedition experienced
no problems whatsoever
• FCO and Dive centre report calm to
this day
• Continued fieldwork by the
University in the area
• However, situation will be
monitored throughout the year; if it
changes, alternative marine
research stations will be looked
into

• Expansion of this years research:
• Fish Behaviour
• Coralline algae
• Novel data collection techniques:
• Stereo-video
• Photo ID,
• Local Environmental NGO
• Ideal opportunity to carry out the
fieldwork for honours and masters
projects
• New research ideas welcome!
6. Team
• 8-10 members from University of
Glasgow, including 2 new leaders
• Collaborate with students from Suez
Canal University
• A passion for science, an interest in
the natural world, research and
conservation
• Enthusiastic fundraisers and creative
types, willing to get involved in public
outreach!
• All members must be confident
around open water (even at night)
• 4-5 pre-qualified divers preferred
within the team
7. Leaders
• Experience with previous expeditions, grant
applications, scientific writing, public
outreach/engagement and fundraising.
• Forward thinking and passionate about
taking on the challenge
• Will be selected at interviews and will co-
lead the expedition
