Conjunctions are the parts of speech that has a very particular function in
English, conjunctions unite words, phrases and clauses.
For example:
Peanut butter and jelly.
Coffee or tea.
Sad but true.
7. COORDINATING CONJUNCTIONS
• FOR
• Explain reason or purpose ( just like because)
I drank some water, for I was thirsty.
• AND
• Join sentences that show a similar idea.
He was tired and hungry.
• NOR
• used to present an alternative negative idea to an already stated negative idea.
He cannot sing nor can dance.
8. COORDINATING CONJUNTIONS
• BUT
• Show contrast.
she studied hard but could not clear the exam.
• OR
• Show choice.
do you want tea or coffee?
• YET
• Join two ideas that are opposite. (similar to but)
we want to go on a picnic yet we cannot.
9. COORDINATING CONJUNCTIONS
• SO
• Indicates effect, result or consequence.
He was busy in his work so he did not attend the party.
