(1) read and comprehend the poem
(2) develop skills of creativity and imagination.
(3) get an idea about the messageconveyed by poet.
Content Analysis: Through this poem the poet presents about a mystery cat and his activities.
And explaining whatis it that makes him a perfect cat ?
Teaching Learning Resources : I C T , picture of a cat & flash cards
Pre-requisites : They might have seen a mystery cat.
Entry Activity
The teacher enters the class with a huge picture of cat and shediscussed aboutcat.
And the teacher shown a cartoon.
Adventure talk
Today we are going to study a poem ‘macavity – The mystery cat’ by T.S . Eliot.
Model reading by the teacher
The teacher sang the poem with the tune of (Johny Johny yes papa)
Reading by the students
The teacher asked the students to sing the poem with other tune.
Glossary References&Explanations
The students were asked to refer the glossary to find out the difficult words.
The teacher shows thedifficult words on the picture of cat.
Comprehensionquestions
The teacher asked the questions in a quiz model.
1. Do you like Macavity ?
Ans : Yes
2. Is macavity a cat really ?
Ans : No
3. Who is macavity in this poem ?
Ans : A cat
Activity
The teacher discussed aboutanimals that students encounter regularly- class roompets,
pets at home. If these animals could write letters, whatwould they tell us ?
Explain that students will pretend to be animals that write letters. Have each
studentchoose an animal and think of a messagethe animal might write. Point out
the parts of the letter and explain them.
 Since the animal is writing to another animal the salutation will say: Dear
(Animals )
 The body of the letter will contain & messagefromthe animals.
 The closing contains the word sincerely followed by the letter- writer’s
name. In this letter, there is an extra line after the name to identify the animal.
Example
Dear Mouse
I really wish I could sleep on my owner’s bed. May be I can sleep there just
once on a special day. What do you think ?

  • 4.  Since the animal is writing to another animal the salutation will say: Dear (Animals )  The body of the letter will contain & messagefromthe animals.  The closing contains the word sincerely followed by the letter- writer’s name. In this letter, there is an extra line after the name to identify the animal. Example Dear Mouse I really wish I could sleep on my owner’s bed. May be I can sleep there just once on a special day.
