Online Learning continues to be the most effective method of delivering organizational training and inductions. In fact, the latest figures from the ABS reveal Online Learning as the fastest growing method of work-related training, having increased from 12.8% in 2013 to 19.2% in 2017.

Editor's Notes
The purpose of an induction is to inform employees and, ideally, should include their responsibilities, your expectations and cover essential work, health and safety information.
Inductions should be easy to share, complete, track and verify. Content needs to be engaging and easy to understand. Employers need to receive quick and timely notifications that inductions have been completed and, that employees are prepared for their new role.
It makes good sense to automate this process both for your organisation and for the employee. Spend less time on repetitive tasks and more time engaging with new personnel. Email a link to new employee and have inductions completed prior to site arrival. New employees can start a new position confident that they have the knowledge and guidelines in place to make a great start.
Today we will discuss a few reasons why you should be using an online platform for Inductions
We will show you some Tools and Techniques to make the induction process Simpler, Quicker for you and your staff. More effective in terms of cost, understanding and due diligence.

Ideally there are many great reasons why an induction should be completed and verified before the employee comes to site.
Then when, they arrive you can Spend more time making an employee feel welcome
Use Inductions to save time with employee onboarding. Use inductions to request essential information
Employees can upload all kinds of documents:

You can use online learning platforms to manage all training. You might have a series of separate courses that you want staff to complete over a time period and link that to a training management or contractor management platform.
One of the great features of online inductions is that they provide a verified system of learning with automatic notifications and certificates for both the attendee and the coordinator. Both recieve immediate notification of pass or fail, a pdf certificate and an email with the certificate attached.
What are the disadvantages?
I think the main disadvantage is that they can fail to impress a new employee. I have heard of some fairly long and boring inductions.
They really need to be Engaging – There is such a thing as death by induction.
For the new employee
Starting a new job can be daunting. With a great induction they can arrive
Fully prepared to start and with a good understanding of Requirements, culture, Staff, your site and much more.
So Hopefully your induction has given them a great impression of your culture and company values
So that new staff are happy to get started
Yes first impressions do count. The induction is your opportunity to get information across and get as much information from staff before work starts
Its also an opportunity to impress, introduce your culture, maybe even your mission statement.
Include a welcoming video
Make it personal, warm and engaging. You can say and show a lot of information with video
Your core business procedures, plant and equipment, processess
Workplace areas
People
The Culture
Your safety climate and more.
Inserting a video into your induction/course is really as simple as recording on your phone, uploading to a host site like you tube or vimeo and then inserting that link onto a page in your course. You can of course use questions on the next page to test their understanding of key points in the video.
Include good information about your team.
Introduce Management, supervisors and co workers
Roles and availability.
Who the inductee will be working with and who they will report to
Who to see about different issues
Include links to phone lists etc
Give then a site overview
Use a google earth map or even drone video if you have that.
Demonstrate Site Access, Emergency Points and Site Security and much more.
Include some friendly guidelines about your
Code of Conduct
Performance Standards/Expectations
Work Hours/Breaks
Smoking and hygiene rules.
And expectations and guidelines for health related issues, particularly given recent developments with corona virus.
Include information about
Emergencies
Evacuation Instructions
First Aid
Safe Operating Procedures
PPE and more.
Add some friendly notes about Computer/device use on site.
Access
Security
Protocols
Software used or not allowed
Social media guidelines
Intranet use on site
For particular roles, you can easily clone an induction and edit for specific roles.
Include information on
Duties
Tasks
Responsibilities
Processes
And future training information
You can even Request attachments such as
Licenses
Competency Certificates
Tax Forms
Bank Details
Medical Info
And much more
This can Save a lot of time chasing up separate documents later
That’ a lot of information that you can include
But there’s more
You may want to provide more about your culture:
Annual Reports
Marketing Plans
Organisational Charts
Or even Ask for Feedback at the end of the induction?
And just a quick note, f you do decide to use the myosh platform for your inductions, we can include our sample for you to edit and make your own.
There’s also a lot more that you can do with online learning
You can really demonstrate due diligence
By providing information
Testing for understanding
And verifying completion
Demonstrate processes such as
Machine Operation
Manual Handling
And Safe Operating Procedures
Video
Test for Understanding
Provide a Procedure List
And Safety Guidelines
And policy sharing and acknowledgement.
You know those long pdf documents with pages of Policies that your staff need to read and sign at the end? And many don’t read…
Policies such as
Discrimination
Harassment
Bullying
Use online learning to really get the information across. Separate the long document into short sections and test for understanding after each section.
Use the platform to get your policies understood:
