Jeev jagat Chapter4 – Adaptation poems
Oh ! How wonderful is Adaptation !
How interesting is this phenomenon !
How nature takes care of its children!
How it equips them for struggle for existence!
Some say it is the “ soul of Evolution”
Some say it is “a process of evolution ”
Others say it is a “ mechanism of evolution ”
Still others say what we see is the “ product of Evolution ”
But one thing all acknowledge since Darwin’s days
That It fits species and individuals without fail
in their environment in such a way or ways
that they increase their chance of survival always.
The techniques of its operation
cause gradual small changes in them
which get incorporated ultimately in their
structure ,behaviour or physiological functions
this enables them to face competition
adjust to meet requirements of soil climatic condition
Jeev jagat poems
and come out with flying colours & distinction
by appropriate response to challenges in this fashion.
Whichever way we look we find in all directions
plants animals and other organisms showing adaptations
their Life styles reflecting the gifts of evolution
their adjustment apparent from features and functions.
The most well known examples may be viewed
biome wise : for instance w.r.t Tundra ; desert ; grassland
rainforest; Aquatic-fresh water or marine biomes :
in structural, physiological or behaviorial terms
Perhaps the most interesting instances relate
to Mimicry , Hibernation and camouflage
however, whatever may suit our fancy.
we may rest assured it will whet our curiosity.
so much in the world is bio diversity .
Jeev jagat
Adaptations in Biomes
Oh ! How beautiful a scenario emerges
What a colourful picture it paints
When we look at the amazing Nature
Through the prism of biomes it maintains
Just by manipulating temperature, light and rains
And a variety of species it sustains
Dressing them up differently with soil climatic change
Reflecting all the colours of rainbow in all their shades
In summer we will do even without clothes
Come winter we will not be comfortable without coats
Some species like arctic foxes & rabbits, as seasons change
change the colour of their fir coats
others like Ptarmigans don plumage of different shades
Many plant and animal species
show various differences biomewise
Bears , foxes ,rabbits of tundra are -snow white
But those of taiga and tropics – of brown or darker shades
In Tundra some species hibernate and some fly farfar away
Jeev jagat
Plants & seeds remain dormant or aggregate
For they have to face or escape rigours of winter always
Come spring and they all become active once again
Plants bloom ,birds return and reindeers mate & graze
In Taiga tall trees of pine & birch in big boreal forests
Grow in Canada Alaska Russia and Siberia’s vast areas
Mosses cover the flooring of the jungles like green mats
Brown bears and other animals freely roam with grace
In grasslands like stepes and praries bovines & felines
Play running & chasing game of predator and prey
Each well equipped with features suitable for its actions
One with canines & paws, other with large ears ,swift feet
Desert biome is well known for its ship of the desert
With its padded feet long neck body hairs
And other features of lips nose and eyes
with which it is equipped to face hardships
Plants like succulent cacti with spines or those
With thorns and small leaves like babul abound
Jeev jagat
In tropics species of all types of organisms have a hey day
Annuals perennials herbs shrubs trees flourish all the way
Plants of water lilies in ponds and puddles attract attention
With roots in mud , floating leaves and colourful flowers
A beautiful example of aquatic adaptations
In equatorial rain forests there is dense green growth
Monkeys and epiphytes flourish on broad leafed trees
Apart from terrestrial there is ofcourse marine biome
Where lot of life flourishes in differentforms
In arctic areas whales and others fitted with blubbers
Or of fur seal type with hairy coat as well
Fishes with streamlined bodies and fins
Many like Sharks having as many as seven senses
Invertebrates like octopus specializing in camouflage
Symbiotic corals with algae ‘blooming’ like beautiful flowers
Flowerless Sea weeds flourishing near coast line
Sheltering many species within their jungle’s confine
Jeev jagat
There is another way of looking at this phenomenon
for many organisms surprise us with their means of survival
See how well nature has equipped the birds
for perching or swimming and seeing far & wide
with wings, feathers, sturdy heart , hollow bones
claws or webbed feet , far seeing eyes like device
But most amazing is the ability of migration
to long distances with which some birds and butterflies
like globe trotter Terns and Emperor butterflies
are so well equipped generation after generation.
Mosquitoes of arctic region survive with anti freeze proteins
But desert ants do so with heat shock proteins
Electric eels and torpedo fishes are capable of sensing
electric pulses and giving shock for defense or preying
Yet again co-evolution of bees and butterflies
With flowering plants shows symbiosis for mutual benefit,
And an adaptation between animals and plants.
Which it so beautifully signifies .
Once again Mimicry between harmless and harmful
Wasps is an adaptation by the former for sheer survival.
Jeev Jagat
Nature is so bewildering and bountiful indeed
That we can go on counting ,and relating instances
after instances but its treasure trove is so large
the examples and our wonder will never cease .

Life sustaining processes and phenomenaJeev jagat ki adharshila chapter 4 adaptation poems

  • 1. Jeev jagat Chapter4 – Adaptation poems Oh ! How wonderful is Adaptation ! How interesting is this phenomenon ! How nature takes care of its children! How it equips them for struggle for existence! Some say it is the “ soul of Evolution” Some say it is “a process of evolution ” Others say it is a “ mechanism of evolution ” Still others say what we see is the “ product of Evolution ” But one thing all acknowledge since Darwin’s days That It fits species and individuals without fail in their environment in such a way or ways that they increase their chance of survival always. The techniques of its operation cause gradual small changes in them which get incorporated ultimately in their structure ,behaviour or physiological functions this enables them to face competition adjust to meet requirements of soil climatic condition
  • 2. Jeev jagat poems and come out with flying colours & distinction by appropriate response to challenges in this fashion. Whichever way we look we find in all directions plants animals and other organisms showing adaptations their Life styles reflecting the gifts of evolution their adjustment apparent from features and functions. The most well known examples may be viewed biome wise : for instance w.r.t Tundra ; desert ; grassland rainforest; Aquatic-fresh water or marine biomes : in structural, physiological or behaviorial terms Perhaps the most interesting instances relate to Mimicry , Hibernation and camouflage however, whatever may suit our fancy. we may rest assured it will whet our curiosity. so much in the world is bio diversity .
  • 3. Jeev jagat Adaptations in Biomes Oh ! How beautiful a scenario emerges What a colourful picture it paints When we look at the amazing Nature Through the prism of biomes it maintains Just by manipulating temperature, light and rains And a variety of species it sustains Dressing them up differently with soil climatic change Reflecting all the colours of rainbow in all their shades In summer we will do even without clothes Come winter we will not be comfortable without coats Some species like arctic foxes & rabbits, as seasons change change the colour of their fir coats others like Ptarmigans don plumage of different shades Many plant and animal species show various differences biomewise Bears , foxes ,rabbits of tundra are -snow white But those of taiga and tropics – of brown or darker shades In Tundra some species hibernate and some fly farfar away
  • 4. Jeev jagat Plants & seeds remain dormant or aggregate For they have to face or escape rigours of winter always Come spring and they all become active once again Plants bloom ,birds return and reindeers mate & graze In Taiga tall trees of pine & birch in big boreal forests Grow in Canada Alaska Russia and Siberia’s vast areas Mosses cover the flooring of the jungles like green mats Brown bears and other animals freely roam with grace In grasslands like stepes and praries bovines & felines Play running & chasing game of predator and prey Each well equipped with features suitable for its actions One with canines & paws, other with large ears ,swift feet Desert biome is well known for its ship of the desert With its padded feet long neck body hairs And other features of lips nose and eyes with which it is equipped to face hardships Plants like succulent cacti with spines or those With thorns and small leaves like babul abound
  • 5. Jeev jagat In tropics species of all types of organisms have a hey day Annuals perennials herbs shrubs trees flourish all the way Plants of water lilies in ponds and puddles attract attention With roots in mud , floating leaves and colourful flowers A beautiful example of aquatic adaptations In equatorial rain forests there is dense green growth Monkeys and epiphytes flourish on broad leafed trees Apart from terrestrial there is ofcourse marine biome Where lot of life flourishes in differentforms In arctic areas whales and others fitted with blubbers Or of fur seal type with hairy coat as well Fishes with streamlined bodies and fins Many like Sharks having as many as seven senses Invertebrates like octopus specializing in camouflage Symbiotic corals with algae ‘blooming’ like beautiful flowers Flowerless Sea weeds flourishing near coast line Sheltering many species within their jungle’s confine
  • 6. Jeev jagat There is another way of looking at this phenomenon for many organisms surprise us with their means of survival See how well nature has equipped the birds for perching or swimming and seeing far & wide with wings, feathers, sturdy heart , hollow bones claws or webbed feet , far seeing eyes like device But most amazing is the ability of migration to long distances with which some birds and butterflies like globe trotter Terns and Emperor butterflies are so well equipped generation after generation. Mosquitoes of arctic region survive with anti freeze proteins But desert ants do so with heat shock proteins Electric eels and torpedo fishes are capable of sensing electric pulses and giving shock for defense or preying Yet again co-evolution of bees and butterflies With flowering plants shows symbiosis for mutual benefit, And an adaptation between animals and plants. Which it so beautifully signifies . Once again Mimicry between harmless and harmful Wasps is an adaptation by the former for sheer survival.
  • 7. Jeev Jagat Nature is so bewildering and bountiful indeed That we can go on counting ,and relating instances after instances but its treasure trove is so large the examples and our wonder will never cease . -----------
