INTRODUCTION
The industrial attachment is a field based practical training experience that enhances and prepare students on their industrial activities and
machinery. The purpose of the industrial attachment as part of the academic calendar for every tertiary institution is to produce practically
oriented future graduates and engineers who meets the require job market and this has given students the platform to gain the practical
know-how of the things we have been taught in our various field of study during our stay in the tertiary institution (KsTU). This also serves as a
privilege to get to see some more sophisticated tools and equipment we come across during our period of studies as we embark on the
industrial attachment. This report belongs to AYAMDOO SAMUEL AWINBISA which took place from 19th September, to 25th November, 2022
with index number 052030500089
COMPANY’S HISTORY
Rauschmayer Institute for Technical Training (RITT) is located in Namoo in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region and belongs to the
group of schools under Regentropfen Model Schools. It is a second cycle institution with three main pillars: theory, practical training and
entrepreneurial training.
Rauschmayer is the name of a German family, the initiator and co-financier of the Institute. However, the institute is run by Regentropfen
Education Foundation, Ghana and fulfils one of the three main objectives of the NGO, namely, to
establish educational facilities in rural communities that would make good quality technical and vocational training accessible to
all. Three-year Programs are run in Photovoltaic System Installation with Electricals, Electronics/ Electro Mechanics, Building
Construction as well as Garments and Fashion Design. The institute admits students who have completed: Junior High School,
Senior High School Technical Schools and Apprentice who want to top up their skills.
ACTIVITIES
RITT fulfills a great need of good technical personnel in the Bongo District of Ghana. Since 2011 Regentropfen Education
Foundation, the owner of Rauschmayer Institute of Technical Training has hired about 80% of the artisans needed for the various
construction works from other regions of the country, mostly from the South of Ghana. Namoo is one of the rural communities
in the Bongo District of Ghana where RITT serve. There is less infrastructure and job opportunities in Namoo, the rain pattern in
this community too does not favor farmers. Hence, the people in Namoo are blessed to have RITT to learn and improve their
skills.
ABOUT THE STAFF
There are many departments in RITT with many teachers and technicians but I was attached to the Project and Technical
department where Mr. Edmund Akanzonge was the head of the project committee and H.O.D of Electrical/Electronic
engineering technology department. Mr. Justus Atindaana was in charge of photovoltaic services and was also assisting Mr.
Edmund. Mr. Donatus Ababila Atuah was also the H.O.D of Building and Construction department.
WORK DONE AND POLICIES THAT AFFECTED THE WORK
Some of the works I did at work during my attachment were:
a. Supervision of project works.
b. Electrical maintenance.
c. Domestic electrical wiring.
d. Assisting teachers and technicians in supervising practical works and teaching in class.
There were many policies and procedures that affected work, any project work that the
school had, was given to the project department, hence, there was always work for the
project committee to do. Additionally, electrical and photovoltaic’s maintenance was
always done by the project management team too, Hence, there were a lot of works for
us every day.
All the works in the project department were scheduled systematically, battery voltage
measurement taking every morning around 7am to 8am or in the evening around 5pm to
6pm, afterwards, class works and supervision of project works. After school hours was also
for electrical wiring and installation on the new buildings or sometimes trouble shootings.
CHAPTER TWO
MOST INVELVED WORK
I was mostly involved in routine maintenance; there were about 200 dry cells and 40 watery batteries that were charged by solar
panels. These batteries were checked every day ensuring safe and constant flow of power, the inverters, the solar panels including the
temperature of the room in which they are, were checked daily. A daily report was always written about the power room as below;
HOW THE WORK WAS DONE AND POLICIES THAT AFFECTED IT
This delegation was given to me by my boss that, every day the maintenance must be done and report must be written on it for future
reference. I was guided by the knowledge gained in class on how to use some of the tools, how to take voltage measurement, and
directions from my boss. One of the school’s policies that affected this work was that, no body was allowed to enter the power room
without a note from the school electrical technician which was Mr. Edmund Akanzonge my boss. That means I could not start work
without my boss even when it was getting late for some of the works.
CHAPTER THREE
MULTIPLE SKILLS USED IN THE WORK I DID
There were various multiple skills used in the work I did during my attachment. Before work could in every working day, all technicians were gathered
and we those who needed lecture to perform a particular task were lectured. Lecture on how some particular tools were used was always given
before work starts. The electrical skill I learnt from school and from internet about installation, safety, usage of tools, polarity and many more were
very helpful to me in performing my work. These skills were also broaden during my attachment, how most of the works were done practically, safety
observations, handling of tools and many more which I also learnt from the technicians helped me improved my skills on thework.
SOME OF THE TOOLS USED DURING THE ATTACHMENT
1. Multimeter. 9. Fishing tape.
2. Set of spanners. 10. Hack saw.
3. Set of screwdrivers. 11. Reamer.
4. Pair of pliers and cutter. 12. Trowel.
5. Pipette. 13. spirit level.
6. Blower. 14. Tape measure.
7. Cutting machine.
8. Drilling machine.
CHAPTER FOUR
THE NEW THINGS I LEARNT DURING THE ATTACHMENT
There are many new things I have learnt during my industrial attachment but photovoltaic installation and the domestic wiring was so important
to me. Anytime we were installing solar panels and connecting invertors to produce electricity, I was vigilant and worked tirelessly in order to
learn it all for my own good. In this work, a metal stand was erected which was tilted at the direction where the sun light is concentrated with a
number of divisions on it, every division sizes as the size of the solar panel we were to fix. The solar panels were screwed in the divisions against
the stand. Afterwards, 5 to 10 solar panels were connected to a single integrator, the number of solar panels per an integrator depends on the
power rating of the solar panel and the integrator. An inverter was connected to the circuit supplying AC power to a transformer and drawing DC
power from the integrators. Finally, power was drown from the transformer and was distributed to various units.
Additionally, learning domestic wiring had always been part of my wishes but I was looking for an opportunity, so been given that opportunity at
Rauschmayer Institute for Technical Training (RITT) to broaden my knowledge on it was so good and important to me. This work was always in
progress when a material estimate is been given to the school high authority by the technicians and materials are around. The walls of the house
to be wired were cut and PVC pipes MK boxes, unit boxes were laid into the cuts and circular boxes were installed. Following all the IEE
regulations, wires were drawn through the pipes and holders were fixed. The rest of the installation was done after later.
These two pieces of work I have learnt during my attachment are important to me because, solar installation is skill most people learn to make
living on. I knew learning the domestic wiring with the photovoltaic wound broader my understanding of what I have learnt in class too. Though it
was not easy learning those two but I also knew I could be self employed with those two pieces of work after I graduate from school.
CHAPTER FIVE
CHALLENGES I FACED DURING THE ATTACHMENT
There were many challenges that I faced during my attachment with RITT.
Transportation; the location of where I was doing my attachment is a long distance to where I was staying. Getting to the work place was not something
easy for me. The distance was about 2 to 3 hour ride with a motorbike to Namoo where the school is located, assembly time starts at7am at work, which
means I always wake up early to finish dressing around 4am in order to make it to the assembly. Sometimes I was not able to go to work early due to
transportation problems. This could have been better if I was sponsored accommodation or was provided a means for transportation to the work place
In addition to the first point, feeding was also one of the disturbing situations that I faced during my attachment. Getting food to eat three times daily was
just like impossible to me during my attachment. Sometime I became so weak to work properly due I have not eaten. Humans are not meant to be working
with an empty stomach, so when there is no food in the stomach automatically work slows down. If food most importantly lunch was provided for the
workers, it could have help improve the work.
Moreover, on the part of where I did my attachment, there not enough workers for the job we were doing. The technicians who were supposed to only be at
the technical side such as electrical maintenance, electrical installations, domestic wiring, drawing building plans for new projects, solar installations etc;
were still forced to go to class and teach students due to lack of enough teachers. These same people were the people managing and supervising the
projects. Because this, work that was supposed to be done by two or three people was done by one person, making us to over stress our selves. If the school
were able to employ more teachers and add, the work delegation could have being normal without us stressing ourselves out.
SAMMARY
On the 21th September, 2022, I was welcomed and given introduction in Rauschmayer Institute for Technical Training (RITT)
located at Namoo in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region by Mr. Edmund Akanzonge in the morning in their staff
room. The next day was still a working day, which I was assigned to project department as an assistant to Mr. Edward
Akanzonge the school electrical technician and HOD of the electrical department. And I was also an assistant to Mr. Justus
Atindaana an expert in the solar installation. There my work started, doing what they ask me to do. With that, of about six
weeks, I was able to perfect myself with most of the electrical works I know and also leant new things such as solar
installation, domestic wiring, and their maintenance. Supervising the project work was one the new skills I gained during the
attachment. Specifically, I was assigned to always take measurement of the battery voltages in the solar power room, change
faulty ones and report to my boss before any other work. Talking of the challenges I faced in the attachment, transporting
myself from Vea where I was staying to Namoo was not easy, buying fuel every day to use motorbike in and out was too
costly for my standard. Also, being able to feed myself at work was something I could not do properly. All these could have
been easy if I was provided accommodation and lunch at work place. After all, I was still able to work till the end. At the end,
I was called and thanked the next day with a final goodbye after I presented my letter of ending the attachment to my boss.
All my forms were filled and I was assessed by my boss before I departed.
CONCLUSION
From all that I have written about my attachment, the knowledge I gained, the working experience I had, the new things I
learnt, upon all the hardship I passed through during the attachment, comparing the hardship with what I gained, I therefore
write to conclude that, industrial attachment is very helpful and good for students.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Since industrial attachment broadens the understanding of its doers, I recommend that, the government should put initiatives
such as giving allowance to people doing industrial attachment.
I secondly recommend that, the government if possible should find addition space within the various schools curriculum for
industrial attachment.
Last but not the least, I urge students to please take industrial attachment very serious for the better of their studies and
lives.

The distance was about 2 to 3 hour ride with a motorbike to Namoo where the school is located, assembly time starts at7am at work, which means I always wake up early to finish dressing around 4am in order to make it to the assembly. Sometimes I was not able to go to work early due to transportation problems. This could have been better if I was sponsored accommodation or was provided a means for transportation to the work place In addition to the first point, feeding was also one of the disturbing situations that I faced during my attachment. Getting food to eat three times daily was just like impossible to me during my attachment. Sometime I became so weak to work properly due I have not eaten. Humans are not meant to be working with an empty stomach, so when there is no food in the stomach automatically work slows down. If food most importantly lunch was provided for the workers, it could have help improve the work. Moreover, on the part of where I did my attachment, there not enough workers for the job we were doing. The technicians who were supposed to only be at the technical side such as electrical maintenance, electrical installations, domestic wiring, drawing building plans for new projects, solar installations etc; were still forced to go to class and teach students due to lack of enough teachers. These same people were the people managing and supervising the projects. Because this, work that was supposed to be done by two or three people was done by one person, making us to over stress our selves. If the school were able to employ more teachers and add, the work delegation could have being normal without us stressing ourselves out.
  • 12. SAMMARY On the 21th September, 2022, I was welcomed and given introduction in Rauschmayer Institute for Technical Training (RITT) located at Namoo in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region by Mr. Edmund Akanzonge in the morning in their staff room. The next day was still a working day, which I was assigned to project department as an assistant to Mr. Edward Akanzonge the school electrical technician and HOD of the electrical department. And I was also an assistant to Mr. Justus Atindaana an expert in the solar installation. There my work started, doing what they ask me to do. With that, of about six weeks, I was able to perfect myself with most of the electrical works I know and also leant new things such as solar installation, domestic wiring, and their maintenance. Supervising the project work was one the new skills I gained during the attachment. Specifically, I was assigned to always take measurement of the battery voltages in the solar power room, change faulty ones and report to my boss before any other work. Talking of the challenges I faced in the attachment, transporting myself from Vea where I was staying to Namoo was not easy, buying fuel every day to use motorbike in and out was too costly for my standard. Also, being able to feed myself at work was something I could not do properly. All these could have been easy if I was provided accommodation and lunch at work place. After all, I was still able to work till the end. At the end, I was called and thanked the next day with a final goodbye after I presented my letter of ending the attachment to my boss. All my forms were filled and I was assessed by my boss before I departed.
  • 13. CONCLUSION From all that I have written about my attachment, the knowledge I gained, the working experience I had, the new things I learnt, upon all the hardship I passed through during the attachment, comparing the hardship with what I gained, I therefore write to conclude that, industrial attachment is very helpful and good for students. RECOMMENDATIONS Since industrial attachment broadens the understanding of its doers, I recommend that, the government should put initiatives such as giving allowance to people doing industrial attachment. I secondly recommend that, the government if possible should find addition space within the various schools curriculum for industrial attachment. Last but not the least, I urge students to please take industrial attachment very serious for the better of their studies and lives.
