2. You are part of a group that wants the government to
look at new ways to generate electricity.
You have been asked by the President to present the
advantages of your energy resource over the others.
• Wind –
• Solar –
• Geothermal –
• Wave/tidal –
• Nuclear –
• Hydroelectric –
• Fossil fuels –
3. What to include?
1. Name of energy resource (& group’s names)
2. Picture
3. How does it produce electricity?
4. What are the advantages?
5. What are the disadvantages?
6. Number of power stations in the UK?
7. Cost to produce energy (p/kWh)?
Think about:
• Cost
• Pollution
• Affect on wildlife
• Damage to
landscape
• Noise
7. Burning coal produces sulphur dioxide, an acidic

10. The UK relies on atomic energy for nearly 20%
of its electricity. UK has 19 reactors generating
about 18% of its electricity. All but one of its
existing power stations is due to close by 2023.
11. Cost to produce energy (p/kWh)?
Those initial costs tend to be greater than
building conventional power stations.
You need about ten million pounds to build
energy plants.
