3. Introduction
A mars rover is a motor vehicle that travels across the surface of
the planet mars upon arrival.
Landed spacecraft can make detailed observations of a planets
surfaces.
To obtain coverage over a wider area, spacecraft can carry robots
that are able to rove over the surfaces.
Crewed missions or robotics rovers provide not only mobility but
also the capability to do complex tasks and make intelligent and
selective observations.
4. Types of rovers
sojourner
spirit and opportunity
curiosity
perseverance
5. Mission
• looking for habitability
• seeking biosignatures
• caching samples
• preparing for humans
6.
7. Perseverance(rover)
• The mars 2020/perseverance rover is designed to better
understand the geology of mars and seek signs of ancient life.
• The mission will collect and store a part of rock and soil samples
that could be returned to earth in the future.
• It will also test new technology to benifit future robotic and human
exploration of mars.
8. Mission Timeline
• Launch july 30,2020 from cape canaveral air force station, florida.
• Land on mars on february 18,2021 at the site of an ancient river
delta in a lake that once filled jezero Crater.
• Spend at least one mars year(two earth years) exploring the landing
site region.
9. Mars 2020 mission contributions
to nasa mars exploration program
science goal
determine whether life ever existed on mars.
characterize the climate of mars.
characterize the geology of mars.
prepare for human exploration
12. Mars ingenuity helicopter:
The mars helicopter, ingenuity is a technology demonstration to test
powered, controlled flight on another world for the first time.
It hitched a ride to mars on the perseverance rover.
The helicopter completed its technology demonstration after three
successful flights.
A technology demonstration to test the first powered flight on
mars .The helicopter rode to mars attached to the belly of the
perseverance rover.
13. Conclusion
perseverance early observations are already revealing that jezero‘s
geologic history is richer than previously imagined, with dramatic
shifts in envinormental conditions.
perseverance has finally collected samples from the site of an
ancient river delta, which is full of rock layers that serve as a
geological record of the martian past.
some of the rocks include the highest concentration of organic
matter found by the rover to date, according to NASA scientists.
