To Whom It May Concern:
This letter is meant to serve as a letter of recommendation for Saher Hasan Mohammed. I met
Saher shortly after I began working at International Students and Scholars, International
Programs and Services (now called the Center for International Education) at Southern Illinois
University (SIU), in July, 2005, and we have remained in contact throughout the ten years since.
I noticed immediately his friendly, patient, respectful manner, as well as the methodical way he
went about locating and fixing whatever computer problem I was experiencing. Every member
of our department knew that if there was any kind of computer issue, Saher was our “go to”
person. Saher would fix the problem rapidly and accurately. He also made my job easier by
single-handedly creating and maintaining several listserves to allow me to easily communicate
information to our 1,300-plus international students.
Over the years working at International Students and Scholars, Saher became a regular volunteer
for our IN GEAR and Speakers’ Bureau programs (International Network for Global Educational
Activities in Rural Schools) through the International Students and Scholars office, giving
presentations to school children in rural classrooms as well as high school students, community
members, and business leaders. He did not hesitate to volunteer whenever asked and was
extremely adept at providing a first-hand glimpse of life in his home country, geared toward
whoever the target audience was. I found him to be exceptionally personable, bright,
hardworking, professional, and kind.
Saher’s verbal and written English skills are also excellent, as are his interpersonal skills—he is
serious and professional; however, he also relates well to a diverse group of people of various
educational levels, cultural backgrounds, and ages. He is also flexible, able to adapt easily to
change. Working as we did in a constantly changing academic environment that trait is
extremely valuable.
I would strongly recommend Saher for your position. His personality, education, experience,
and talent would make him an asset in any company and any department. If you have any
additional questions, please contact me at econrad@siu.edu or call 618-453-7662.
Sincerely,
Elaine Conrad
