There are 1.8 billion young people between the ages of 15 and 24. Do you believe young leaders can be at the center of peace around the world? Peace is one of Rotary International’s Areas of Focus, and the United Nations unanimously adopted the Youth, Peace and Security Resolution to support the full inclusion of young people as peacebuilders. This session will help you explore peace education, training and mentoring opportunities available to Youth Exchange Officers and Rotary Youth Exchange participants as part of NewGen Peacebuilders and the Youth & Peace in Action initiative. These programs have been supported by Rotary Clubs and Districts in 10 countries, and recognized by the Rotarian Action Group for Peace and RI strategic partner Institute for Economics & Peace. At the end of this session, you’ll be equipped to share Rotary’s vision of positive peace; the Eight Pillars of Peace framework; opportunities to equip young people as peacebuilders; and new ways to make connections between youth exchange participants and alumni as peacebuilders in their communities. The session is hosted by Rotary Peace Fellow and Rotary Positive Peace Activator Patricia Shafer, who is Senior Fellow for Peace Education at the Alliance for Peacebuilding, a global network of 150 organizations and universities. She will be joined by Jelena Jevtic, a former Rotaractor and US State Dept-sponsored exchange student who is an alumna of the NewGen Peacebuilders and Youth & Peace in Action programs.
