Applying for Uni /TAFE in SA
http://www.satac.edu.au/satac-publications
These two books have all the rules and you
should be familiar with them
Both are updated live on the SATAC Website.
Why apply this year for 2021 Uni TAFE ?
1. You may actually want to go directly to study in 2021..(March for Uni.. Late Feb for TAFESA)
2. You may want to have a little taste of Uni but intend withdrawing before census date so you don’t
have HECS Debt?? Check carefully!!
3. Given the CoVid pathways you may get an offer for something next year that you would not
otherwise get?
4. You may want to have a deferred offer sitting there why you have a Gap year or do Yr 13
(If the Cut off goes up the following year it will not matter – you have your offer.)
5. You may measure your 2020 journey by having an offer – you may have no intention of going on
with it but it may add to your identity of being successful.
6. You may just wish to learn more about how to apply, so latter in life you feel comfortable doing it?
7. If you apply by the deadlines, Uni 30th Sept TAFESA 29th Dec TBC complete Course Admission
Requirements then you have a lot of flexibility to add delete and change order of most preferences
right through to Jan 7th Uni and Jan 4th TAFESA
The cost: Uni Applications $45 TAFESA Free
Tertiary Entrance Statement ONLY Relevant for Uni not TAFE or LIFE
and doesn’t show Selection Rank with Adjustment Factor Bonus Points

Recognised Studies: Best 3 x 20 TAS plus next best /10
divide by /70 x 20
Finding out my Selection Rank
You can check your Selection Rank for each of your course preferences by logging into your SATAC application via My
Application.
Next to each preference will be listed your Selection Rank
For example the score next to Physiotherapy at Uni of Adelaide and UniSA would be different as at Uni of Adelaide they
do not consider Subject Bonus points for Physiotherapy
Checking Individual Equity Applications to get the 5 Bonus points – for all courses in SA.
See:
https://www.satac.edu.au/individual-adjustments-frequently-asked-questions
If your CRN benefit is NOT in your Name as the first person but in your parent carer name, then you will need to upload
documents.
ALL applicants need to the check the Document section to see what needs to be uploaded.
You need to email yourself a sheet to print out, fill out and scan and upload.
I understand this year you will be able to double check if your individual Equity Application has been correctly lodged.
We will clarify that info soon.
Admission Pathways into University
• For Each University course there may be up to 4 different Admission Pathways through SATAC that you can
complete in for consideration.
• There are a number of spaces in each pathway called a Quota. You can in fact be considered in a number of different
Quotas.
• Of course the most common Pathway Quota is the Yr 12 Students Qualification ATAR/ Selection Rank Quota. For
nearly all Undergraduate courses this is the largest intake.
• If you have VET Qualifications there are many courses that you can enter based on qualification. See page 17 of the
SATAC Guide. We have had students with a completed Cert 3 be offered a course at Flinders University before they
completed their SACE. . For mist other Universities their minimum consideration I Cert 4 level
• You may also complete in the Special Entry Admission Pathway STAT Work and Life Experience) if you have done
the STAT and met Personal Competencies and Employment Experience as required. Not all courses have a Special
Entry Quota See Page 19. You would only apply to sit the STAT if you thought you would perform significantly better
than your Selection Rank ATAR and the course you are interested in is open to Special Entry.
• Higher Education Quota. Once you have a minimum of 4 subject Grade Point Average in a Diploma level course or
above you need to check at the relevant University if they will use this as a basis for consideration in the Higher
Education Quota. Some courses like University of Adelaide Medicine only consider a First year at University of
Adelaide ONLY full time 8 subject GPA and have places preferenced for students coming from particular University of
Adelaide courses.
Different Ways into University
• Guaranteed Entry Score & Conditional Offers
• Flinders Research Project Selection Rank Some courses only 60% Selection Rank ATAR 40%

require Personal Competencies and Employment Experience See later slide
Different Ways into and through University
• Foundation Studies and University Preparation Courses (often free) but no credit going
forward.
• Diploma Pathways UniSA College & SAIBT…..
• Yr 13 can 3 attempts to add to ATAR, Equity School Bonus Pts & Rule cant add new Cert 3 after
year of first ATAR
• CoVid Pathways for students doing Yr 12 in 2020 ONLY
• Uni Pathway course (maintain a GPA for 1 year and do set subjects)
• Tertiary Transfer SATAC Higher Education Quota within Uni or back through SATAC using 4
subjects GPA in most cases but not all.. Be warned… need to weigh up with Yr13 Option?
• Post Graduate pathways – Graduate Medicine, Post Grad Physio, OT etc but usually need set
subjects – need to plan from 1st year. Cost of more study – weigh up with Yr13 Option?

Investigating Courses 1
Remember the system is quite flexible.. You do not need to know EXACTLY what you want to do:
As long as you have one preference registed by the 30th Sept you can generally add delete and rearrange right through to Jan
7th. And if you still unsure mid January when offers are made you can defer.
If you start a course and stright away know you really don’t like it – you can seek help, change, defer, withdraw with no
charge (assuming you do by correct dates)
Many courses open up again for mid year entry so on your same SATAC Application you can put in a new “eligible”
preference.
Over 50% of first year syudents make some change to their subjects or courses. The key to it is to do it without cresting more
of a HECS Debt and protecting your GPA.

beyond Sept 30 and then many others after 1st December.
KEY SATAC Undergraduate Dates
Example: UniSA Key Dates 2021
SATAC Selection: Importance of
Equal Consideration Dates
Equal Consideration
As long as you have registered by the 30th September, paid by 1st
December, added courses with set closing dates by the relevant
closing date and met all application requirements, then you will
have Equal Consideration for your preferences in the January
Offer round.
Whilst for most courses you can add through to 7th of January
there are some you cannot or if add late will NOT be give you
Equal Consideration.. This can change on the live SATAC website
too. So best to put down any with red flags with warnings about
closing dates before December 1st.
You can then change order or even delete after this but may or will
not be able to add these courses after their individual closing date.
SATAC Eligibility and Selection
SATAC Guide Page 9:
Overview of SATAC Selection
Once SATAC system closes on 7th January, SATAC will confer with the Universities and assess eligible applicants with ‘eligible
preferences”
Whilst you can have up to 6 preference listed in order, you will only get a maximum of one offer.. Even if you have a Selection Rank
ATAR of 99.9. (Worst case scenario you may get no offer in the first round on January 15th)
The order of your preferences on January 7th is VERY Important. Ms Coorey will be checking after January 2nd and will try and make
contact if she feels you may need to reconsider preferences or preference order in terms of anticipated competitiveness.
SATAC and The Universities will look at your first preference, will make no consideration of how you will cope with the course or
how suited you are to it.. They will for all courses without additional considerations simply look at your Selection Rank ATAR on the
15th of December and decide if they can make you an offer to your FIRST preference. If there is a Guaranteed Entry Cut off and you
have met it, you will get that offer if it is your “highest” eligible Preference.
If your Selection Rank ATAR is not competitive for that course then they will move down to your second preference.. We are unsure
as yet how this work with Conditional offers but will clarify by the Final Careers newsletter at the end of November.
If you are offered preference 3 but really wanted preference 6 you cannot do anything in that offer round. There may still be spaces
in Preference 6 and they nay still allow late change of preference after January 15th and you may be be to reorder your preference s
for the second offer round and get an offer – but not likely all this will still be open.
SATAC Offers January 15th
Only one offer possible – whatever is the highest on list for which your ATAR/ Selection Rank ATAR is
competitive (course dependant) and you are eligible for an offer i.e. met pre requisites with C- or better, other
application requirements met, Closing Dates met etc etc.
Considering the STAT Test
• STAT run by ACER but need to tick on SATAC Application but now
apply through ACER link:
• SA Students can only sit the online test on 17th September 5pm
AEST There may be later sitting BUT this is only one for now – keep
checking website.
• 70 Question Multiple Choice test 2Hrs 10Mins
• Must have certain IT equipment /programs Check link
• Quite expensive $225 .. Especially if apply late
• Must be 18 by 31st Jan 2021- 18 on the day of 1st Feb2021 for SA
universities to accept
• Can be used for many courses in the place of Yr 12 Selection Rank
ATAR (not all)
• Sometimes it is combined with other requirements to give a Special
Entry Score – depends on the Uni and the Course
• See: https://www.satac.edu.au/pages/undergraduate-admission-
pathways
• And for sample questions See: https://stat.acer.org/au
End of Year: Didn’t get the ATAR..
•Many students take up an offer to a lower ranked preference with the hope of getting a great GPA ( Grade Point Average) in first year and then getting an offer
to “higher course” the following year.
•Students need to be aware of the GPA required last year for this to occur – not just the minimum to make them eligible but the actual lowest GPA offered a
spot. This information is hard to get.
•For many courses they will consider a 4 subject GPA, so you may be able to focus on just 2 subjects each semester and get higher GPA and maybe not so many
subjects that cannot be carried forward , i.e. larger HECS debt. Check if your desired course allows a 4 subject GPA or must it be a full load
•Some courses like Adel Uni Medicine have strict requirements – like a full study load.
Extra places reserved for students coming in from Heath and Medical Sciences. Once you have Tertiary Study your school ATAR and Bonus Points no longer
count / cannot be used for Medicine entry.
•If students are aiming to get a higher GPA compared to ATAR with Bonus Points – they need to check the first year subjects within the degree, how are the
exam weightings, have you done any preparatory study.
•UniSA run a Health Sciences Prep Workshop in Feb of each year just for this purpose.
•Students may also be interested to check if any credit for these first year subjects will be possible – or will they add further time and HECS Debt.
•Many students also aim to finish a Health Science Degree and then move on to Masters in Physio, OT or Dietetics or Grad Medicine. Students need to be very
aware what subjects will their GPA be judged upon and what scores they will need to average. Their relevant GPA may not get an offer in SA but may get an
offer in Wagga Wagga?
•See special rules for Flinders Graduates in to Post Grad Medicine and much more – huge advantage.
•There is a very strong case to reconsider a Yr 13 subject and enrolling in an Equity School like Findon or OceanView. Enrolments fill fast and interested students
are advised to do a preliminary enrolment in November rather than wait for Yr 12 results and miss out. Ms Coorey happy to discuss this option with interested
students.
•Some courses have mid year intake so if the student has a 4 subject GPA at end of first semester (i.e. full
study load) they may apply to SATAC in June and get a successful Tertiary Transfer for second semester
Interstate
Similar to SATAC, you can apply for each State and get offer for each State
See Page 10 SATAC Guide “Applying Interstate”
Note: often English is a Pre Req – but not always
Many accept “Pearson's Test of Academic English” or Uni of Adelaide Maths Track or Subjects
through UniLearn
Bonus Point Policies differ & often requires separate application.
If you have ANY interest in applying interstate, it is imperative you email the Admission Officer at
the relevant Uni to see what is the ruling for students from South Australia or come and see Ms
Coorey
Many of our students interested in Medicine end up applying around Australia –
for example James Cook Uni in Townsville not require UCAT but has PreReq, Assignment and
Intervie., BondUni No UCAT but does have special aptitude/ psychological test and is expensive
Check all Interstate Courses VERY carefully Dates may vary and may require extra i.e. RMIT Supplementary
Applications etc.

Flinders UniTest
Flinders UniTest is a Online test of 95 Multiple Choice questions which takes 2.5 hours
It can be considered for ALL Flinders University courses besides Medicine and either weighted at 40% with 60 %
Selection rank or at 100% UniTest if great result. If you Selection Rank is better, that will automatically be used.
UniTest measures the following skills in 3 core components (each of 30 items):
Quantitative reasoning
Critical reasoning
Verbal-plausible reasoning.
Sample Questions: https://www.flinders.edu.au/content/dam/documents/study/domestic/pathways/unitest-sample-
questions.pdf
We will be honest – it is a very challenging test and we have had only one student in the past use their result to gain
entry to a Flinders Uni course they would not have otherwise be offered.
We still encourage you to sit it, as it is free and will be an exposure to a type of test you may have to sit for employment
in years to come.
Note: You will still need to apply for your course via http://www.satac.edu.au/.
Registering for UniTest
If you’re interested in sitting the uniTest, please email Ms Tidd nikki.tidd@smc.sa.edu.au
the following details by no later than 4pm on Friday 28th August 2020 (End of Week 6).

Flinders Conditional Offer Based on Assessment Centre
The Flinders University Assessment Centre Conditional Offer Program allows the University to consider assessment methodologies for admission to
higher education, as an alternative to ATAR. At The Assessment Centre Day Flinders University staff observe student interactions through a range of
group and individual activities designed to allow students the opportunity to demonstrate the characteristics and aptitude for study at university such
as Analytical Thinking, Creativity, Curiosity, Mindful Agency, Motivation, and Resilience.
In the past, students have participated in a group discussion, completed an online aptitude and writing task , created and talked about a creative.
They way students present their ideas, consider the ideas of other and communicate are the key to these activities.
This year the program is offered for both Year 11 and Year 12 students, who are interested in pursuing higher education at Flinders University, and will
complete their SACE and satisfy conditions within the offer made.
There are limited spaces.
St Michaels College will be hosting an Assessment Centre Day on campus Monday 21st September (Week 10, Term 3).
Students will be required to submit an application form at least three weeks prior to this day and will be provided with a pre-assessment activity one
week prior to the event date, which they will need to bring to the Assessment Centre.
In the application students will be asked to:
“Explain your reasons for choosing the degree(s) above and why you will succeed in the degree(s) you have chosen. This information will help the University assess your
motivation and interest. Please include any achievements relevant to your application (TAFE/VET/community involvement/work experience/volunteering).”
As part of the application process, students will also need to indicate which course they would like to be considered for through this program. There
are limited spaces available. Students will be informed about the application process and due dates early in Term 3.
For a full list of eligible courses, please email educationpathways@flinders.edu.au Note if students perform exceptionally well they may be
considered for other courses, but one of their 3 listed courses must come from the eligible list.
In the formal application process you will ask a nominated teacher to fill out a brief assessment on aspects of your strengths as a Learner. You will
need to think of a teacher you have or have had in 2020 that would do this for you.
Flinders Assessment Centre Expression of Interest
At the end of this week we will be emailing out the Expression of Interest Form to which you must reply (not Mum or Dad).
We have spaces for 45 Year 11 and Yr 12 students ONLY. First 45 Expression of Interests will then be allowed to begin formal application
process.
Please note the Expression of Interest email must come from the student and not the parent as a measure of the student’s independence and suitability for the
program

•Why do you think this Assessment program and Conditional offer would be particularly suited to you.
TAFESA
Why Consider TAFESA?
•Free to apply
•Strict Application Dates – very hard to add and be
competitive after you don’t get Uni offer
•Lot cheaper than Uni.. less debt
•More direct vocational pathway
•Issue re Work Ready funding.. If do after Uni degree
may not be eligible for a subsidized place in course.
•More often better outcomes for students who get 65
ATAR and below entering Uni with less academic subjects
and skills.
•Many TAFESA Graduates compete for exactly the same
jobs as related Uni course graduates in Human
Movement, Marketing, Tourism, even aspects of
Business, Engineering etc.
•TAFE qualification may give credit at Uni and also allow
for employment at Para Professional level whilst going on
to Uni – Enrolled Nurse vs Registered Nurse.
•Can have a TAFESA offer and a Uni Offer
Can apply for free via TAFESA Website for all TAFESA and
Dual TAFESA /Uni Courses www.tafesa.edu.au
Or can apply via www.statac.edu.au Red TAFESA square
TAFESA www.tafesa.edu.au
TAFE Courses From Certificate 1 level all the way to Bachelor Degree
No Pre requisites but Course Admission Requirements CAR
If CAR exist could be SACE, Lower level VET Qualification, Pass in CSPA etc
Competitive TAFE Courses have specified Selection Criteria to base selection upon.
Can be date of application, CSPA result Rank, Questionnaire, Portfolio etc
Big Issue re TAFE is access to subsidised place in a course.:
Cannot have done more than 2 x Cert 2 or above and this usually requires passing the CSPA Test
Need to be aware of the:
Location i.e. which campus and
Study Mode Current CoVid modifications have blended i.e. online and some in person.
Category i.e. of says Existing Worker Application you cannot apply unless part of current related
employment i.e Cert 4 in Dental Assisting
Cost Full Fee or subsidized Dip beauty Therapy only Full Fee
Below Diploma level must be paid up front or in approved instalments during the semester – cant defer it,
cant get a loan
Can get loans for certain Diploma level and above, See VET Loan: https://www.tafesa.edu.au/apply-
enrol/vet-student-loans
TAFESA Continued
Some complicated entry pathways
Ad Dip Oral Health.
Has many CAR including Written Assessment and then competitive Selection Criteria
Photography CAR – Cert IV or Portfolio
Acting, Dance etc CAR require Audition
Moving from TAFE to Uni – Very clear pathways/ credit save $HECS debt, practical aspect to employability
Do not assume if I miss out on Uni I can go to TAFE – often more competitive entry…and you must adhere to
application dates.
TAFE offers all levels of qualifications from Advanced Diplomas to Short Courses right through to dual
awards with all three Universities. TAFE UNI Dual Courses
Example: Dual pathways
Diploma of Conservation and Land Management/Bachelor of Science (Wildlife Conservation Biology) – Uni Adelaide
Pathway
Associate Degree in Electronic Engineering/Bachelor of Engineering (Electronics) (Honours) - Flinders University
Pathway (4 Years with any Yr 12 Maths and ATAR above 60 – Para professional qualification first – can work$$
less HECS debt)
TAFE Pathways
TAFESA Course Information
CSPA Test
• Core Skills Profile for Adults: Multiple Choice and some Text Writing Covers: Reading Writing and Numeracy
• It is compulsory part of Course Admission Requirements for some courses and used in some competitive courses to
rank applicants as per Selection Criteria
• It is usually required as a way to access cheaper subsidized position – otherwise could face full fee.
• No preparation materials or practice questions outside of the Short TAFESA Course online:
https://www.tafesa.edu.au/xml/course/sc/sc_T957689394.aspx
• Very Important to book in and do it well before deadline of Nov 24th for Round 1 offer and Dec 3rd for Round 2 offers
• https://www.tafesa.edu.au/apply-enrol/cspa
TAFESA Registering

position you should sit for it ASAP, otherwise you may wish to change
preferences to a cheaper course.
TAFESA Key Dates
•For many TAFESA Courses the Selection Criteria for offers if a course becomes competitive is by the Date of Application
hence we encourage students to apply ASAP i.e. well before the 24th November.

offer on Dec 4th or before
•So for this first December round, you need to have completed your TAFESA SATAC Application by 24th November.

Student SATAC Pathways Presentation

  • 1.
  • 2. Yr 12 Student Presentation Yr 12 SATAC Pathways 2021 Rose Coorey & Anthony Vizaniaris Monday 10th August
  • 3. Lessons From Research Project Research Project Experience ….Firstly CONGRATULATIONS!! What did you learn about SACE Moderation of your School 70%? What did you learn about the SACE External 30% Evaluation? Have you seen your results on your SACE Students Online https://apps.sace.sa.edu.au/students-online/login.do Username: SACE Rego Code 6 numbers plus letter and PIN is (If you have not logged in before) the first four digits of your date of birth in the format DDMM, e.g. 1st July = 0107 .. Unless you have already changed it. If you have changed and forgotten you will need to click on Pin Reset What was you mark /15 .. That will hint at scaling at end of year – i.e. low, middle or high in the grade band? How will this experience inform you for rest of the year?
  • 4. Other Details on Parent SATAC PowerPoint If you check through the Parent SATAC PowerPoint on the Careers and VET Portal under Important Information you will see much more details on the topics listed below that we are not going through today. Much of this has been covered in our past Yr 12 Assemblies and in effort to shorten today’s information we felt you can check out the Parent PowerPoint. •Jobs of the Future, 21st Century Skills, •Gen Z, Maximising Yr 12 Results •Busting the Myths behind VET vs Uni •Value of going to Uni •Achieving SACE •Three results St Michaels, SACE Subject Achievement Grade SACE Scaled Score •SACE Certificate and Tertiary Entrance Statement •The Aggregate and ATAR •Adjustment Factors and Bonus Points •Scaling and Selection Rank ATAR •Costs of Study
  • 5. Careers and VET Portal All PowerPoints are accessible under the Important Info Tab Yr 12 Presentations On SEQTA
  • 6. Applying for Uni /TAFE in SA http://www.satac.edu.au/satac-publications These two books have all the rules and you should be familiar with them Both are updated live on the SATAC Website.
  • 7. Why apply this year for 2021 Uni TAFE ? 1. You may actually want to go directly to study in 2021..(March for Uni.. Late Feb for TAFESA) 2. You may want to have a little taste of Uni but intend withdrawing before census date so you don’t have HECS Debt?? Check carefully!! 3. Given the CoVid pathways you may get an offer for something next year that you would not otherwise get? 4. You may want to have a deferred offer sitting there why you have a Gap year or do Yr 13 (If the Cut off goes up the following year it will not matter – you have your offer.) 5. You may measure your 2020 journey by having an offer – you may have no intention of going on with it but it may add to your identity of being successful. 6. You may just wish to learn more about how to apply, so latter in life you feel comfortable doing it? 7. If you apply by the deadlines, Uni 30th Sept TAFESA 29th Dec TBC complete Course Admission Requirements then you have a lot of flexibility to add delete and change order of most preferences right through to Jan 7th Uni and Jan 4th TAFESA The cost: Uni Applications $45 TAFESA Free
  • 8. Tertiary Entrance Statement ONLY Relevant for Uni not TAFE or LIFE and doesn’t show Selection Rank with Adjustment Factor Bonus Points : https://www.sace.sa.edu.au/documents/652891/dc00e1a0-0e59-43ff-88ba- 1be808337ae0 Approved Cert 3: Counts in Flexible 30 as 20 credit Recognised Studies: Best 3 x 20 TAS plus next best /10 divide by /70 x 20
  • 9. Finding out my Selection Rank You can check your Selection Rank for each of your course preferences by logging into your SATAC application via My Application. Next to each preference will be listed your Selection Rank For example the score next to Physiotherapy at Uni of Adelaide and UniSA would be different as at Uni of Adelaide they do not consider Subject Bonus points for Physiotherapy Checking Individual Equity Applications to get the 5 Bonus points – for all courses in SA. See: https://www.satac.edu.au/individual-adjustments-frequently-asked-questions If your CRN benefit is NOT in your Name as the first person but in your parent carer name, then you will need to upload documents. ALL applicants need to the check the Document section to see what needs to be uploaded. You need to email yourself a sheet to print out, fill out and scan and upload. I understand this year you will be able to double check if your individual Equity Application has been correctly lodged. We will clarify that info soon.
  • 10. Admission Pathways into University • For Each University course there may be up to 4 different Admission Pathways through SATAC that you can complete in for consideration. • There are a number of spaces in each pathway called a Quota. You can in fact be considered in a number of different Quotas. • Of course the most common Pathway Quota is the Yr 12 Students Qualification ATAR/ Selection Rank Quota. For nearly all Undergraduate courses this is the largest intake. • If you have VET Qualifications there are many courses that you can enter based on qualification. See page 17 of the SATAC Guide. We have had students with a completed Cert 3 be offered a course at Flinders University before they completed their SACE. . For mist other Universities their minimum consideration I Cert 4 level • You may also complete in the Special Entry Admission Pathway STAT Work and Life Experience) if you have done the STAT and met Personal Competencies and Employment Experience as required. Not all courses have a Special Entry Quota See Page 19. You would only apply to sit the STAT if you thought you would perform significantly better than your Selection Rank ATAR and the course you are interested in is open to Special Entry. • Higher Education Quota. Once you have a minimum of 4 subject Grade Point Average in a Diploma level course or above you need to check at the relevant University if they will use this as a basis for consideration in the Higher Education Quota. Some courses like University of Adelaide Medicine only consider a First year at University of Adelaide ONLY full time 8 subject GPA and have places preferenced for students coming from particular University of Adelaide courses.
  • 11. Different Ways into University • Guaranteed Entry Score & Conditional Offers • Flinders Research Project Selection Rank Some courses only 60% Selection Rank ATAR 40% RP • University of Adelaide Law School Admission Test www.lsat.org • TAFE to Uni (With Credit) & TAFE concurrently with Uni Flinders TAFELINK: http://www.flinders.edu.au/future-students/how-to-apply/undergraduate- study-applications/tafelink.cfm TAFE/ Uni Dual: http://www.tafesa.edu.au/apply-enrol/how-to-apply/uni-pathway-programs/dual- offer-courses UniSA TAFE RTO Pathways: http://www.unisa.edu.au/Study-at-UniSA/Study-with-us/Entry- pathways/TAFERTO/ University Adelaide: http://www.adelaide.edu.au/study/non-school/tafe-vet • STAT Test For Most courses must be 18 by 1st Feb 2021 and many UniSA and Flinders Courses require Personal Competencies and Employment Experience See later slide
  • 12. Different Ways into and through University • Foundation Studies and University Preparation Courses (often free) but no credit going forward. • Diploma Pathways UniSA College & SAIBT….. • Yr 13 can 3 attempts to add to ATAR, Equity School Bonus Pts & Rule cant add new Cert 3 after year of first ATAR • CoVid Pathways for students doing Yr 12 in 2020 ONLY • Uni Pathway course (maintain a GPA for 1 year and do set subjects) • Tertiary Transfer SATAC Higher Education Quota within Uni or back through SATAC using 4 subjects GPA in most cases but not all.. Be warned… need to weigh up with Yr13 Option? • Post Graduate pathways – Graduate Medicine, Post Grad Physio, OT etc but usually need set subjects – need to plan from 1st year. Cost of more study – weigh up with Yr13 Option?
  • 13. OK Lets get started Video UniSA Applying to SATAC: http://study.unisa.edu.au/apply/ Video UniSA Video: https://youtu.be/_B-Is7QJeZA
  • 15. Investigating Courses 1 Remember the system is quite flexible.. You do not need to know EXACTLY what you want to do: As long as you have one preference registed by the 30th Sept you can generally add delete and rearrange right through to Jan 7th. And if you still unsure mid January when offers are made you can defer. If you start a course and stright away know you really don’t like it – you can seek help, change, defer, withdraw with no charge (assuming you do by correct dates) Many courses open up again for mid year entry so on your same SATAC Application you can put in a new “eligible” preference. Over 50% of first year syudents make some change to their subjects or courses. The key to it is to do it without cresting more of a HECS Debt and protecting your GPA. http://whatshouldistudy.com.au/ https://www.gooduniversitiesguide.com.au/education-blogs/tertiary-study/how-to-choose-a-course-if-you-re-not-sure-what-you-want- to-do https://www.studentsuper.com.au/blog/10-questions-to-ask-yourself-before-choosing-a-university-course/ https://artofsmart.com.au/choosing-right-university/ https://www.qilt.edu.au/ https://www.fya.org.au/2015/09/16/new-government-tool-lets-you-know-if-youre-going-to-get-a-job-after-finishing- uni/?gclid=CjwKCAjw97P5BRBQEiwAGflV6dbMlPyfWfP_r0s1P_a_sCIggmTPyatHeflZ6nooit0CsYwpnSY8MxoCwHoQAvD_BwE

  • 25. SATAC Applying 1 Find on youtube: SATAC Applying Video https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=0kDsQ1NeiD0&feature=youtu.b e School Studies – very important as otherwise charges Certificates – anything 2020 completed Cert 3 and above STAT Special Tertiary Admission Test – now apply online via ACER.. Need to clarify what is last date to sit to be eligible for Jan 14th Offer Some courses that consider STAT also give points for Personal Competencies and Employment experience .. You need to check this. For the moment you could just enter an X and press save draft then edit later…but do not press submit Special Consideration via SATAC for current Yr 12 University Equity Scheme
  • 26. SATAC Applying Undergraduate Slide 2 Teaching Capabilities Statement for relevant Courses. Just enter x and save draft but do not submit until 100% happy with it and by Sept 30th. Ready to submit: When checked make sure you press submit .. Get ready to write down your 9 digit SATAC Registration Number Your Application is active once you have this number, paid your fees $45 and checked Documents section and submitted any requirements by the due date. Very important to check Documents section Next time you log back on you will go to Applicants Services and you will see a whole new list of options: Be careful between August 23rd and mid September keep your desired Uni of Adelaide Conditional Offer course there as Number 1 preference – if you change it after August 30th you may lose it.. TBC You can add delete and change the order of most but not all preferences right through to January 7th with no additional cost – always make sure your press SAVE and always log back on the next day to make sure it is all OK. PLEASE Check closing dates for ANY courses you may beineterested in ASAP as some courses cannot be added to an active application beyond Sept 30 and then many others after 1st December.
  • 28. Example: UniSA Key Dates 2021
  • 29. SATAC Selection: Importance of Equal Consideration Dates Equal Consideration As long as you have registered by the 30th September, paid by 1st December, added courses with set closing dates by the relevant closing date and met all application requirements, then you will have Equal Consideration for your preferences in the January Offer round. Whilst for most courses you can add through to 7th of January there are some you cannot or if add late will NOT be give you Equal Consideration.. This can change on the live SATAC website too. So best to put down any with red flags with warnings about closing dates before December 1st. You can then change order or even delete after this but may or will not be able to add these courses after their individual closing date.
  • 30. SATAC Eligibility and Selection SATAC Guide Page 9:
  • 31. Overview of SATAC Selection Once SATAC system closes on 7th January, SATAC will confer with the Universities and assess eligible applicants with ‘eligible preferences” Whilst you can have up to 6 preference listed in order, you will only get a maximum of one offer.. Even if you have a Selection Rank ATAR of 99.9. (Worst case scenario you may get no offer in the first round on January 15th) The order of your preferences on January 7th is VERY Important. Ms Coorey will be checking after January 2nd and will try and make contact if she feels you may need to reconsider preferences or preference order in terms of anticipated competitiveness. SATAC and The Universities will look at your first preference, will make no consideration of how you will cope with the course or how suited you are to it.. They will for all courses without additional considerations simply look at your Selection Rank ATAR on the 15th of December and decide if they can make you an offer to your FIRST preference. If there is a Guaranteed Entry Cut off and you have met it, you will get that offer if it is your “highest” eligible Preference. If your Selection Rank ATAR is not competitive for that course then they will move down to your second preference.. We are unsure as yet how this work with Conditional offers but will clarify by the Final Careers newsletter at the end of November. If you are offered preference 3 but really wanted preference 6 you cannot do anything in that offer round. There may still be spaces in Preference 6 and they nay still allow late change of preference after January 15th and you may be be to reorder your preference s for the second offer round and get an offer – but not likely all this will still be open.
  • 32. SATAC Offers January 15th Only one offer possible – whatever is the highest on list for which your ATAR/ Selection Rank ATAR is competitive (course dependant) and you are eligible for an offer i.e. met pre requisites with C- or better, other application requirements met, Closing Dates met etc etc.
  • 33. Considering the STAT Test • STAT run by ACER but need to tick on SATAC Application but now apply through ACER link: • https://stat.acer.org/au/test-dates/online-testing • SA Students can only sit the online test on 17th September 5pm AEST There may be later sitting BUT this is only one for now – keep checking website. • 70 Question Multiple Choice test 2Hrs 10Mins • Must have certain IT equipment /programs Check link • Quite expensive $225 .. Especially if apply late • Must be 18 by 31st Jan 2021- 18 on the day of 1st Feb2021 for SA universities to accept • Can be used for many courses in the place of Yr 12 Selection Rank ATAR (not all) • Sometimes it is combined with other requirements to give a Special Entry Score – depends on the Uni and the Course • See: https://www.satac.edu.au/pages/undergraduate-admission- pathways • And for sample questions See: https://stat.acer.org/au
  • 34. End of Year: Didn’t get the ATAR.. •Many students take up an offer to a lower ranked preference with the hope of getting a great GPA ( Grade Point Average) in first year and then getting an offer to “higher course” the following year. •Students need to be aware of the GPA required last year for this to occur – not just the minimum to make them eligible but the actual lowest GPA offered a spot. This information is hard to get. •For many courses they will consider a 4 subject GPA, so you may be able to focus on just 2 subjects each semester and get higher GPA and maybe not so many subjects that cannot be carried forward , i.e. larger HECS debt. Check if your desired course allows a 4 subject GPA or must it be a full load •Some courses like Adel Uni Medicine have strict requirements – like a full study load. Extra places reserved for students coming in from Heath and Medical Sciences. Once you have Tertiary Study your school ATAR and Bonus Points no longer count / cannot be used for Medicine entry. •If students are aiming to get a higher GPA compared to ATAR with Bonus Points – they need to check the first year subjects within the degree, how are the exam weightings, have you done any preparatory study. Students need to be very aware what subjects will their GPA be judged upon and what scores they will need to average. Their relevant GPA may not get an offer in SA but may get an offer in Wagga Wagga? •See special rules for Flinders Graduates in to Post Grad Medicine and much more – huge advantage. •https://www.flinders.edu.au/study/pathways/course-pathways/health-pathways •There is a very strong case to reconsider a Yr 13 subject and enrolling in an Equity School like Findon or OceanView. Enrolments fill fast and interested students are advised to do a preliminary enrolment in November rather than wait for Yr 12 results and miss out. Ms Coorey happy to discuss this option with interested students. •Some courses have mid year intake so if the student has a 4 subject GPA at end of first semester (i.e. full study load) they may apply to SATAC in June and get a successful Tertiary Transfer for second semester
  • 35. Interstate Similar to SATAC, you can apply for each State and get offer for each State See Page 10 SATAC Guide “Applying Interstate” Note: often English is a Pre Req – but not always Many accept “Pearson's Test of Academic English” or Uni of Adelaide Maths Track or Subjects through UniLearn Bonus Point Policies differ & often requires separate application. If you have ANY interest in applying interstate, it is imperative you email the Admission Officer at the relevant Uni to see what is the ruling for students from South Australia or come and see Ms Coorey Many of our students interested in Medicine end up applying around Australia – for example James Cook Uni in Townsville not require UCAT but has PreReq, Assignment and Intervie., BondUni No UCAT but does have special aptitude/ psychological test and is expensive Check all Interstate Courses VERY carefully Dates may vary and may require extra i.e. RMIT Supplementary Applications etc.

  • 38. Flinders UniTest Flinders UniTest is a Online test of 95 Multiple Choice questions which takes 2.5 hours It can be considered for ALL Flinders University courses besides Medicine and either weighted at 40% with 60 % Selection rank or at 100% UniTest if great result. If you Selection Rank is better, that will automatically be used. UniTest measures the following skills in 3 core components (each of 30 items): Quantitative reasoning Critical reasoning Verbal-plausible reasoning. Sample Questions: https://www.flinders.edu.au/content/dam/documents/study/domestic/pathways/unitest-sample- questions.pdf We will be honest – it is a very challenging test and we have had only one student in the past use their result to gain entry to a Flinders Uni course they would not have otherwise be offered. We still encourage you to sit it, as it is free and will be an exposure to a type of test you may have to sit for employment in years to come. Note: You will still need to apply for your course via http://www.satac.edu.au/.

  • 41. Flinders Conditional Offer Based on Assessment Centre The Flinders University Assessment Centre Conditional Offer Program allows the University to consider assessment methodologies for admission to higher education, as an alternative to ATAR. At The Assessment Centre Day Flinders University staff observe student interactions through a range of group and individual activities designed to allow students the opportunity to demonstrate the characteristics and aptitude for study at university such as Analytical Thinking, Creativity, Curiosity, Mindful Agency, Motivation, and Resilience. In the past, students have participated in a group discussion, completed an online aptitude and writing task , created and talked about a creative. They way students present their ideas, consider the ideas of other and communicate are the key to these activities. This year the program is offered for both Year 11 and Year 12 students, who are interested in pursuing higher education at Flinders University, and will complete their SACE and satisfy conditions within the offer made. There are limited spaces. St Michaels College will be hosting an Assessment Centre Day on campus Monday 21st September (Week 10, Term 3). Students will be required to submit an application form at least three weeks prior to this day and will be provided with a pre-assessment activity one week prior to the event date, which they will need to bring to the Assessment Centre. In the application students will be asked to: “Explain your reasons for choosing the degree(s) above and why you will succeed in the degree(s) you have chosen. This information will help the University assess your motivation and interest. Please include any achievements relevant to your application (TAFE/VET/community involvement/work experience/volunteering).” As part of the application process, students will also need to indicate which course they would like to be considered for through this program. There are limited spaces available. Students will be informed about the application process and due dates early in Term 3. For a full list of eligible courses, please email educationpathways@flinders.edu.au Note if students perform exceptionally well they may be considered for other courses, but one of their 3 listed courses must come from the eligible list. In the formal application process you will ask a nominated teacher to fill out a brief assessment on aspects of your strengths as a Learner. You will need to think of a teacher you have or have had in 2020 that would do this for you.
  • 42. Flinders Assessment Centre Expression of Interest At the end of this week we will be emailing out the Expression of Interest Form to which you must reply (not Mum or Dad). • 43. TAFESA Why Consider TAFESA? •Free to apply •Strict Application Dates – very hard to add and be competitive after you don’t get Uni offer •Lot cheaper than Uni.. less debt •More direct vocational pathway •Issue re Work Ready funding.. If do after Uni degree may not be eligible for a subsidized place in course. •More often better outcomes for students who get 65 ATAR and below entering Uni with less academic subjects and skills. •Many TAFESA Graduates compete for exactly the same jobs as related Uni course graduates in Human Movement, Marketing, Tourism, even aspects of Business, Engineering etc. •TAFE qualification may give credit at Uni and also allow for employment at Para Professional level whilst going on to Uni – Enrolled Nurse vs Registered Nurse. •Can have a TAFESA offer and a Uni Offer Can apply for free via TAFESA Website for all TAFESA and Dual TAFESA /Uni Courses www.tafesa.edu.au Or can apply via www.statac.edu.au Red TAFESA square
  • 44. TAFESA www.tafesa.edu.au TAFE Courses From Certificate 1 level all the way to Bachelor Degree No Pre requisites but Course Admission Requirements CAR If CAR exist could be SACE, Lower level VET Qualification, Pass in CSPA etc Competitive TAFE Courses have specified Selection Criteria to base selection upon. Can be date of application, CSPA result Rank, Questionnaire, Portfolio etc Big Issue re TAFE is access to subsidised place in a course.: Cannot have done more than 2 x Cert 2 or above and this usually requires passing the CSPA Test Need to be aware of the: Location i.e. which campus and Study Mode Current CoVid modifications have blended i.e. online and some in person. Category i.e. of says Existing Worker Application you cannot apply unless part of current related employment i.e Cert 4 in Dental Assisting Cost Full Fee or subsidized Dip beauty Therapy only Full Fee Below Diploma level must be paid up front or in approved instalments during the semester – cant defer it, cant get a loan Can get loans for certain Diploma level and above, See VET Loan: https://www.tafesa.edu.au/apply- enrol/vet-student-loans
  • 45. TAFESA Continued Some complicated entry pathways Ad Dip Oral Health. Has many CAR including Written Assessment and then competitive Selection Criteria Photography CAR – Cert IV or Portfolio Acting, Dance etc CAR require Audition Moving from TAFE to Uni – Very clear pathways/ credit save $HECS debt, practical aspect to employability Do not assume if I miss out on Uni I can go to TAFE – often more competitive entry…and you must adhere to application dates. TAFE offers all levels of qualifications from Advanced Diplomas to Short Courses right through to dual awards with all three Universities. TAFE UNI Dual Courses Example: Dual pathways Diploma of Conservation and Land Management/Bachelor of Science (Wildlife Conservation Biology) – Uni Adelaide Pathway Associate Degree in Electronic Engineering/Bachelor of Engineering (Electronics) (Honours) - Flinders University Pathway (4 Years with any Yr 12 Maths and ATAR above 60 – Para professional qualification first – can work$$ less HECS debt)
  • 48. CSPA Test • Core Skills Profile for Adults: Multiple Choice and some Text Writing Covers: Reading Writing and Numeracy • It is compulsory part of Course Admission Requirements for some courses and used in some competitive courses to rank applicants as per Selection Criteria • It is usually required as a way to access cheaper subsidized position – otherwise could face full fee. • No preparation materials or practice questions outside of the Short TAFESA Course online: https://www.tafesa.edu.au/xml/course/sc/sc_T957689394.aspx • Very Important to book in and do it well before deadline of Nov 24th for Round 1 offer and Dec 3rd for Round 2 offers • https://www.tafesa.edu.au/apply-enrol/cspa
  • 49. TAFESA Registering Can enter either via SATAC website of start with the apply now green tab next to the relevant course on the TAFESA Website.. Which will take you to the SATAC Website. We suggest for TAFE Surname First Initial of Christian name and Number 2 i.e. CooreyR2 Your password can be anything 8 characters one number one letter minimum – keep private You MUST keep a record of this User name and Password in the encrypted Notes section of your Phone You will then receive an email – you need to click on this and then go back in and on the left side you will see Login ..to continue application.

Once you have submitted your application you will get a 9 digit SATAC TAFESA Registration Number – write this down Check What to Do next and Documents section Note: If you apply for a course that has CSPA as a CAR you will see this: Given the importance of passing the CSPA Test to get a subsidised position you should sit for it ASAP, otherwise you may wish to change preferences to a cheaper course.
  • 51. TAFESA Key Dates •For many TAFESA Courses the Selection Criteria for offers if a course becomes competitive is by the Date of Application hence we encourage students to apply ASAP i.e. well before the 24th November. •For some courses such as Acting once you apply you will be sent Audition information so you have longer to prepare. •There are 2 offer rounds for TAFESA •If your course has no Course Admission requirements and no SACE or SACE Subject CAR then you will be eligible for an offer on Dec 4th or before •So for this first December round, you need to have completed your TAFESA SATAC Application by 24th November. •If CSPA is a CAR You must have sat for your CSPA and got your results before November 24th (allow 10 working days between sitting it and getting results) •The last day to change preferences for this December offer round is: December 2 •The December offer round will happen on December 4th. •As such we encourage applicants who wish to apply for a TAFESA Course in 2021 to have their SATAC Application completed, CAR Requirements completed by November 24th •The January offer round •If CSPA is a CAR You must have sat for your CSPA and got your results before 29th December (allow 10 working days between sitting it and getting results) •The last day to change preferences for this January offer round is: 4th January •The January offer round will happen on 8th January
