3. OBJECTIVES
� Primary prevention of cancers by health
education.
� Secondary prevention :- Early detection and
diagnosis of common cancer such as cancer of
cervix, mouth ,breast & tobacco related cancer by
Screening/ Self examination method.
� Tertiary prevention :- Strengthening of the
existing institutions of comprehensive therapy
including palliative care.

1. REGIONAL CANCER CENTRE SCHEME
strengthening of existing RCC & act as
referral centres for complicated and difficult
cases at the tertiary level.
2. ONCOLOGY WING DEVELOPMENT SCHEME
to avail the cancer treatment facilities in all
geographical areas.
3. Decentralised NGO scheme
meant for IEC activities, undertaking health
education and early detection activities of
cancer.

to give wider publicity about Anti Tobacco
Legislation.

7. TOBACC0 CONTROL LEGISLATION
� The Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products Act
2003 was launched in April 2003.
The important provisions are:-
# prohibition of smoking in public areas.
# prohibition of direct and indirect advertisement
of cigarette and other products.
# prohibition of sale of cigarette and other tobacco
products to age group below 18yrs and near any
educational institutions.
8. # mandatory depiction of statutory warnings on
tobacco packs.
# mandatory depiction of tar and nicotine contents
along with maximum permissible limits on
tobacco packs.
9. NATIONAL TOBACCO CONTROL
PROGRAMME
� Launched during 11th five year plan.
The main components of the programme are:-
# Public awareness/ mass media campaign
# establishment of tobacco product testing
laboratories.
# research and training
# monitoring and surveillance
# dedicated tobacco control cells
# training of health and social workers
11. MID DAY MEAL PROGRAMME
� Also known as SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAMME
� Working from 1961
� Objectives :-
# to attract more children to attend school
and thus improve literacy.
12. PRINCIPLES
� The meal should be a supplement and not a
substituent to the home diet.
� The meal should supply at least one –third of the
total energy requirement & half of the protein
needed.
� Cost should be reasonably low.
� Should be easy to cook in schools.
� Get the locally available foods
� Menu should be frequently changed.
13. INTEGRATED CHILD
DEVELOPMENT SCHEME
� Started in 1975
� Provides :- Supplementary Nutrition, Vitamin A
prophylaxis, Iron and folic acid supplementation.
� Beneficiaries are :- preschool children < 6yrs,
adolescent girls 11 to 18 yrs, pregnant and
lactating mothers.
� ANGANWADI workers covers about 1000
population by each.
� A network of MAHILA MANDALS helps ICDS.
14. PROPHYLAXIS AGAINST NUTRITIONAL
ANEMIA
� Launched during 4th five year plan.
� Distribution of iron and folic acid supplements to
pregnant women and young children (1 – 12 yrs)
� MCH ,PHC , ICDS are engaged.
� Iron fortification of common salt.
15. NATIONAL PROGRAMME FOR PREVENTION
AND CONTROL OF DIABETES,
CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE AND
STROKE
� Launched in 4TH Jan 2008
� Programme interventions are:-
# health promotion for the general population
# disease prevention for the high risk group
# assessment of prevalence of risk factors.
