1. Romeo Urbinelli
Tissue Mill Consultant
Consulting Services offered:
Tissue Mill Start-up support
o This service can be quite comprehensive and can include (but not limited to) any of the
following tasks:
Operator training, certification and documentation development
Process engineer training of higher level engineering, maintenance, chemistry
and operations best practices
Engineering document review, analysis, feedback, optimization of process
design
Construction, erection support; insure interferences are reduced, keep project
to schedule, advise on modifications to pipe runs and equipment location that
would help with the long term operation
Equipment testing and commissioning support
DCS implementation and optimization (i.e. Valmet DNA)
DCS controls tuning, group start optimization, DCS/QCS optimization
Reliability Based Maintenance or TPM implementation
Tissue Machine or Converting
Acting as impartial facilitator between different Valmet business units, Chemical
supplier, Piping contractor, Machine erector, Electrical Contractor
Communicating through frequent written reports and regularly scheduled
meetings with upper management any gaps or opportunities in the
construction, equipment supply, commissioning, start-up, process that should
be addressed to allow for a smooth start-up and long term safe, reliable, high
quality tissue manufacturing process.
Tissue Base Paper and Converted Finished Product Development and optimization
o Having the unique experience to have been able to travel and work inside 90% of the
Tissue manufacturing facilities in North America, the consultant can provide options,
ideas, input on product design, how it would compare to leading competitors and how
that design can be implemented in a safe, reliable and cost effective manner in the
tissue manufacturing process.
2. Capital project review and optimization
o Many times, when a Tissue Mill Engineering team is in the process of making a capital
investment, it is very helpful to have an outside experienced resource to help fine tune
the Request for Bid documents, review the completed bids and help communicate to
the decision makers the differentiation between the bid packages. This can help greatly
on price, equipment included, performance guarantee included as well as
commissioning and long term support arrangements.
Capital project feasibility study
o The consultant can complete a comprehensive study, analysis, calculations, flow
diagrams and equipment list to generate an accurate estimate for capital project
planning and assessment for adequate project ROI.
Tissue Machine Rebuild Cost Estimate
o This estimate will give the client a description of the upgrades that will need to be
implemented for the desired outcome of the capital investment, an equipment list,
material take off, man hours and other details for accurately estimating the cost of a
major Tissue machine rebuild.
Tissue machine Capacity Study
o Overall assessment of Tissue Machine and supporting process equipment to determine
improvements necessary to increase capacity permanently. Typically, used for
identifying capital expenditures that will permanently improve the capacity of the
process.
Tissue machine bottleneck analysis
o Analysis of the Tissue making process to determine the bottlenecks in the order that are
holding the machine performance back. Could be a combination of repairs and
equipment upgrades that are identified.
Reliability Based Maintenance Program Implementation
o This consulting service can be custom designed to meet a Tissue mill’s needs whether it
be in identifying opportunities and improving the current maintenance system, Leading
the implementation of a new, reliability based, proactive TPM maintenance system or
being a key tactical member of the maintenance system implementation team.
Yankee Chatter analysis
o Thorough study of the machine and process to determine the cause(s) for intermittent
or continuous chatter in the Yankee surface or just developing in the coating chemistry.
3. Recommendations are issued to reduce greatly or eliminate the causes of the Yankee
chatter.
Yankee Dryer Inspection Services
o This service can also be tailored to meet each customer’s needs. From routine annual
internal and external inspections to comprehensive inspection of the Yankee surface,
condensate removal equipment, steam quality, boiler water treatment and purification,
Yankee soda straw replacement and set-up, overseeing Yankee bearing or insulating
sleeve replacement and more.
Sheet stability improvement assessment
o For light weight, low tensile sheet support, excellent sheet stability is required. This
assessment, reviews what the current sheet stability is and what improvements and
upgrades are needed to make the sheet stability align with world class technology for
sheet support.
Tail threading optimization.
o Tail threading lost time does not need to be a major contributor to lost production with
a properly designed and optimized tail threading system. This study reviews the entire
system, makes improvements on the spot and recommendations for further
improvements for optimal tail threading.
Sheet turn-up optimization
o Many tissue machines struggle to consistently and reliably perform sheet turn-
ups/transfers which contributes to major lost time and waste over time. This study will
assess the current equipment, set up and methods for making turn ups. At the outcome
of the study, turn up success rate will improve and recommendations will be made to
bring the turn up performance to world class standards.
Felt, Wire or Structured Fabric life improvement
o This study will look thoroughly at all factors that affect the specific fabric runnability as
well as the reasons for shortened fabric life. At the outcome of this study, the customer
will have specific, concrete actions to take to improve fabric life.
Creping Improvement study
o This study looks at all factors affecting the creping of the tissue web from the Yankee
dryer. Areas such as transfer, coating crosslinking, Yankee steam and condensate
function, Crepe blade holders, blade types, coating chemical package are all considered
to give the customer the best possible recommendations to improve creping quality and
performance.
4. Stickies and contamination reduction
o This study looks at problem areas where stickies or other contamination are causing lost
quality or production and a wide array of prevention and mitigation techniques and
systems will then be recommended to the client.
Employee training and development programs
o Having a work force with the right skills and tools to take ownership of the tissue making
process is critical to the long term success of a Tissue mill. Building tools, training
materials, conducting the training, certification and mastery process can all be part of a
training and development service package.
The above are just a few of the typical studies and services that I can perform for your organization.
There are many other services I have supported various Tissue industry customers with over the last
several years.
Customized studies can be designed for any specific outcome that you would like to see for your Tissue
Manufacturing Process.
