2. Hydromantis Webinar
• MBI: Modern Business Intelligence
– What does it mean to Hydromantis and why is it important
• Simulation as a Management Tool
– Integrating critical operational intelligence into a plant specific
platform for all the stakeholders
• SimuWorks: WWTP Simulator
– WEFTEC, challenging the operator
3. Modern Data Modelling: SimuWorks™
“Modern Business Intelligence”
It starts with a commitment………..
to capture all key data and related process
information in a technology platform that is “Plant
Specific” so as to preserve and protect the integrity of
a utilities operational intelligence…….
An Informed approach.

Modern Data Modelling: SimuWorks™
The value of “Modern Business Intelligence” calibrates
all data and process information as site specific
intelligence.
Modern Business Intelligence is not a black box!
5. Modern Data Modelling
• An MBI platform that is Plant Specific, Calibrated, Comprehensive,
Accessible, and User Friendly.
6. Modern Data Modelling
• Hydromantis’ approach provides depth and agility. Capturing critical
institutional knowledge and integrated into a valuable operations and
management tool.
7. Simulation as a Management Tool
• Recognizing that true organizational knowledge lies with the people who do
the work.
• Maintaining a Utility’s operational performance demands for the preservation
of critical information (data) used in the running of its facilities.
8. Simulation as a Management Tool
• Relying on the hard-earned experience of senior
operations staff to know what decisions to make
and what processes to follow when certain
conditions occur does not provide for capture of
that valuable intelligence.
• Far too often senior staff who hold that
significant critical knowledge either i) retire or ii)
transfer out of their position.
• When they leave, so goes that critical
information.
9. Simulation as a Management Tool
• THE RESULT:
• Less-experienced staff take their place.
• An attempt to re-learn critical operational knowledge is made but,
unfortunately the same mistakes made previously repeat themselves.
• As a result the potential for erosion of the utility’s performance, i.e. increased
maintenance costs, ongoing operational problems, regulatory issues, and
reduced asset life is a real threat.
• As well, the cost of required operator training, certification, documentation,
and the overall process of improving the facilities becomes expensive and time
consuming.
10. Simulation as a Management Tool
• Solution: Involving them in the process leads to buy-in, provides better
documentation of processes, captures real value and allows for managed
expected outcomes.
• Having a comprehensive management tool employing the use of technology
as a key reference is truly invaluable.
• By capturing and regularly updating critical operation skills and knowledge
avoids an organization losing valuable assets, i.e. its people and vital
operational intelligence.
11. Simulation as a Management Tool
Critical components to capturing and managing organizational
knowledge
• KEY COMPONENTS:
• Identify major content and critical process areas
• Develop competencies and quality metrics
• Document procedures and those related processes
• Integrate that knowledge into Employee tools, technologies (i.e. simulation)
• Design and facilitate classroom training
• Provide feedback, follow-up and refresher web based learning modules
• Document lessons learned.
• Document and integrate identified process improvements
12. Challenging Operators
• Hydromantis recognizes that the front line operators
are a key component in the successful operation of all
Water & Wastewater Treatment Facilities.
• Hydromantis also recognizes that if a realistic (Plant
Specific) and accessible interface is introduced to those
front line operators as a resource and tool, then
significant achievements will be achieved for the entire
organization.
13. Challenging Operators
• Hydromantis is very pleased to announce our new
partnership with the Water Environment Federation (WEF) to
add process simulation into the annual Operations Challenge
event at WEFTEC.
• Starting in 2016, teams will use Hydromantis’ SimuWorks™
simulators to troubleshoot wastewater treatment process
problems as part of the Process Control event.
• Operators will be presented with simulations of treatment
systems that are not achieving desired objectives, and will
be required to make operational changes to improve effluent
quality.
• Demonstration: SimuWorks™
