2. Feedback
❖ I have obtain verbal feedback for
the ancillary texts.
❖ The majority appreciated the
styles of the draft cover,
particularly, the statue image.
❖ Some claimed there was a clear
link to religion and rap.
❖ A few people said the front could
be improved by making the font
bold and a different colour that
contrasts with the white statue.
Draft 1
3. Feedback
❖ There were mixed views for the drawn
styles digipak cover.
❖ Some were not completely sure of what
the drawing was.
❖ One commented that they would have
preferred the drawing to be red, rather
than green.
❖ I would agree with this, as red would
match the conventions of the rap genre.
❖ Also, the previous questionnaire
suggest that people preferred the
colours red, black and white when
consuming rap products.
Draft 2
4. Feedback
❖ Many did preferred this CD
cover.
❖ Comments were made on the
simplicity of the design and the
crown that was easily identified.
❖ Many interpretations were
made on message conveyed
through the drawing.
❖ Some said the image could be
larger, so that it was the main
focus.
Draft 3
5. Feedback
❖ Some liked the design, but
argued it was too plain, saying
the colours could be more
diverse, but still match the rap
genre.
❖ Mainly all said the text was not
clear and so was difficult to
read.
❖ The design reflects the rap genre
because of the city landscape
design, that is often used among
pre-exist rap products.
Draft 4
6. Feedback
❖ Although, there was many
positive comments for this
design, especially for the birds,
people claimed that it did not
have the styles needed to match
the rap genre.
❖ Some people said the text needs
to be clearer and larger.
❖ Most people disliked the colour,
although I believe this gave the
poster a more retro-modern
look.
7. Feedback
❖ Most claimed they preferred
this design the most.
❖ It was said that this design
clearly uses the generic codes
and conventions of rap music,
in regards to colour and star
image.
❖ A minority of people said the
3D glasses effect was irritating,
as they would have preferred
the design to more flat for it to
appear more modern like.
8. Feedback
❖ I have also obtained quantitative data, which I have represented
through pie charts.
❖ This will allow me to make easy comparisons due to the numerical
feedback.
❖ This was only done for the digipak designs as I created more drafts
for this, hence it may be unsuitable to do this for the magazine
advert.

Draft 1 Draft 2 Darft 3
Draft 4
❖ The majority believed draft 3
reflected the rap genre the most.
❖ This perhaps was because of the
typical preconceptions of rap
music. For example, rap artists
often are associated with a sense
of danger, which is connoted
through black and white colours.
❖ Also, rap artists often construct a
superior personality, which is
symbolised through the crown.

Draft 4
❖ The majority claimed draft 1
utilised colour best. Some
commented on the interesting
contrast of colour and light with
the background colour, the
shadow and the statue image.
❖ Whereas, with the other drafts
people disliked the lack of colour.

Draft 1 Draft 2 Darft 3
Draft 4
❖ Most people preferred draft 1.
Within the feedback, people
claimed this draft had the most
professional appearance.
❖ Some people also said they liked
the religious links shown through
the image. This, particularly,
mirrors pre-existing themes in
rap featured products.
12. Feedback
❖ This shows how religion is highly convention to the rap genre. This is perhaps
reflective of society, as religious iconography was predominantly used by black
rap artists during the 80s and 90s, such as Tupac. Along with the theme of poverty,
this can be appreciated and worshiped by the C2DE demographic. As this group
of people were often racially marginalised and so can have used both rap music
and religion to represent themselves.
❖ However, modern rap music and videos often reject the traditional way of looking
a rap. Rather now there is sense material wealth, which is conveyed through bling
iconography. This promotes consumerism, especially for the ‘aspirers’ and ‘tribe
wired’ psychographic (LifeMatrix), who value the idea of “The American Dream”.
❖ The image above is an example of a religious message conveyed through a shot of
a statue (iconography) in pre-existing rap product. This shot was taken from the
'No Church in the Wild' music video.
13. CONCLUSIONS
❖ Overall, through the process of obtaining feedback, I was able to
identify specifically what was wanted by the target audience.
❖ Particularly, the issue of colour should be addressed and improved
for the final digipak design.
❖ Also, I need to ensure the digipak and poster have traditional
elements of the rap genre.
14. CONCLUSIONS
Below is one of the improvements I have made, as a result of the feedback
comments. I change the colour, not only to make the text clearer, but to
match traditional colour that are associated with rap. Also, I added the
‘sun’ shape to represent hope and the idea of rising from poverty.
