This document provides an introduction to the Lean Launchpad methodology and project selection process for an entrepreneurship course. It discusses that the Lean Launchpad is an agile, iterative process for searching for and validating a repeatable and scalable business model through customer interviews and testing hypotheses. Students will craft or select a startup project to explore through applying customer development and business model canvas techniques. They will conduct interviews and update their canvas weekly to identify experiments towards a minimum viable product. Their learning will be assessed through in-course presentations and a final report demonstrating their validated insights.

• a bit about me
• the lean launchpad (LLP) - solutions to real problems
• evidence-based search for repeatable & scalable business model
• LLP represents an agile & iterative process to bridge the gap
between opportunity & value
• focus lies in search & validation - NOT execution

• Framing hypotheses - application of business model canvas (BMC)
• propose initial canvas & update weekly
• Customer discovery - search process
• conduct ~10 interviews per week - aim for 100 over the semester
• update the canvas weekly & present results & pivots to peers
• Product or service - experiments towards execution process
• continual revisions to MVP based on customer discovery

Reflections - what we learned
• what we thought
• what we did
• what we found
• what’s next …..
Class room sessions are our synthesis
• in-person and online
• digest data captured during
customer engagement
• using progress boards to track metrics

Will map performance against following weekly & cumulative metrics:
• customer interviews
• hypotheses to test
• invalidated hypotheses
• peer engagements
12. Your job is NOT to validate your product
… rather, to validate a problem
………. and then how best to solve it
13. Goals of customer discovery
1. (In)validate problem/solution fit
2. (In)validate business model hypothesis
3. Identify experiments through minimal viable products
4. Not to get statistical significance but rather pattern
recognition to drive customer insights

Crafting your own venture/project
• Represents a genuine interest & commitment to
solve a problem
• Allows you to explore customer discovery &
validation
• May even extend into the execution side with
actual customer creation & venture formation
• Project needs to be deep/complex/broad enough
to engage 100 prospective customers in the
discovery/validation process
• Start crafting the value you seek to add & the
hypotheses you seek to test
